USDA Announces Phased Reopening of US-Mexico Border for Livestock
USDA has announced a coordinated, phased reopening of southern ports of entry for livestock trade, contingent on Mexico’s continued progress in controlling New World Screwworm (NWS) and meeting key milestones in a Joint Action Plan.

Beginning August 24, 2026, the Douglas, Arizona, port of entry will reopen to cattle imports from Mexico. USDA selected Sonora and Chihuahua for the initial reopening due to their animal health infrastructure, inspection programs, and lower NWS environmental risk. Every animal entering will undergo an inspection.

USDA will evaluate the success of the Douglas reopening before considering the reopening of additional ports, including Santa Teresa, New Mexico, and Columbus, New Mexico. The timeline remains flexible and could be adjusted based on risk assessments and Mexico’s continued compliance with control measures.

HERD SELL OUT!!!!
35 black and black baldy cows with 31 calves will be offered next Wednesday July 15th. This is the cows first trip to town as they were all born and raised on the farm they’re coming from. Most are 3-8 yr olds with a few being older. Most calves will be pulled off and sold by the pound with 6-8 smaller calves being paired up with their mothers. The remaining cows will be sleeved and should be coming back in during the fall. A few of the oldest cows will be culled out and sold by the pound. A 4yr old registered Angus bull will also sell with the cows, (see a picture of him in the photos). He is what they are bred to.

Tomorrow feeder calf sale will start at 4:00. It will really help us and the cattle the earlier you can get them here. Everything needs to be here no later than 2:00. We are expecting 6-700 so they will get weighed as soon as you get them here.

June 17 at Noon we will have 10 first calf pairs. Cows have been back with the bull since March 2. Also 9 bred cows that have weaned big calves. They will be 6 years old in December. Great opportunity to get some young cows. Look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow. We will also have a food truck here tomorrow to serve lunch
