Hoophouse 2 is getting new clothes! We have many hoophouses that help us extend out very short season here. They are critical to our farm and make so much possible that would not be otherwise.
BUT, they require maintenance and in the midst of a busy summer that can be a pain. We are now on a pretty good schedule that one hoophouse per year will get our attention. With new plastic + labor we budget a couple thousand dollars each year. Sometimes a hoophouse will cut in line but if all goes well they get a makeover every 7 years with this rotation (that’s pushing the plastic about 3 years longer than is recommended but we are still doing pretty good despite our deviance from the rule).

This year we added new sidewalls and replaced the wood hip boards with steel. Hoping this adds to the structural integrity for winter, wind, and lengthening the life of the building.
So glad to be getting this done, but this is not a great time to be buying steel 😳
