Jenkinson Farm and Garden

Jenkinson Farm and Garden Farm using no pesticides or herbicides, growing fruits, vegetables, grass fed beef, lamb and chickens for eggs

In 2009, my husband and I "bought the farm!" In the last few years we have gone from bartering with a local farmer to turning it into a business and lifestyle. With some hired help we are creating a "agri-tourist" destination to allow the public to come visit the farm to see what goes into running and growing healthy food. The chance to walk the fields, feed the animals, enjoy the views. We have

been selling pesticide free fruits, vegetables, eggs, grass fed beef, lamb and mutton at the Athens Farmer's Market for the last three years. I hope you will enjoy keeping up with life on the farm.

NPR asked a handful of public health experts how to approach a holiday season with not one but three respiratory pathogens helping fill hospitals: COVID, the flu and RSV.

I must admit I miss my flock of Guinea Fowl. I ended up with several tics a few weeks ago repotting a few plants on the back porch. Besides....Guineas are like a comedy team.....

Looking for a new pet that will keep your yard completely free of ticks, fleas and mosquitos AND lay eggs for you? A guinea hen might be just your gal. A 2009 study found opossums might be our best defense against Lyme disease, as the rodents eat over 5500 ticks […]

We will be putting the farm up for sale in the next few weeks. We are still going out doing deep cleaning, feeding the few chickens and cats. A local neighbor, Dairy Farmer up the road named Boyd Allen cut our hay this year for the first time.We barter. I get 10 round bales and he gets the rest. He called one afternoon apologizing for running over a Guinea Fowl and her nest. The Guinea fowl are so random, and hide their nests so well it's really hard to see them. I assured him it was fine. After I hung up I realized a few years ago I had another farmer cutting and bailing my hay, also named Boyd Allen M. That did the same thing.
What are the chances 2 farmers cutting my hay, both named Boyd Allen would run over and kill a nest of Guinea Eggs and their Mom. Pam Boger..... statistics???

5 years ago we were going strong at the Athens Farmers Market. We started planting this spring but we had been talking of moving to town. In March we purchased a home and started moving. With onions, potatoes, green beans, pumpkins all planted and plans to keep coming to the Farmers Market. Then Covid happened. A couple days ago I realized with everything else I had not sent in my Dues of Membership. I will be selling my honey at Whites Mill and Shrivers on Union Soon and donating to community food Initiatives and the good work they do.
I do recommend you look for Kelly Gambill and her daughter Kitty, at their Out of the Woods booth. She makes incredible jellies and has great herbs and vegetables! She also grew up on the farm, her father built in in 1973.
Thanks for all your support!

Dear friends and family, not sure when we are going as a farm to the AthensFarmersMArket at this moment. My husband, Scott is the only Pathologist in Athens/Hocking County. While I feel the Athens Farmers Market is one of the Safest places to buy your groceries in the county I am not sure of attending this year, due to the Corona19. I have lots of Green Onions and honey from 2018. We are finally planting Tomatoes and other summer Veggies at this point we may just donate to local food bank. This will be our last summer farming as we have already purchased a home in Athens City Limits. If you currently would like some fresh green onions or honey let me know. 740-541-4190. Please leave a message. Peace to all.

Due to the continued cold weather and Covid 19, Jenkinson Farm and Garden will not be back at Athens Farmers Market for a few more weeks.

The chickens are barely laying any eggs but continue to look me in the eye regularly to give me their opinions.

The Guineas leave me gifts of their
Feathers regularly. Each is distinctive in its patterns. I'm thinking quilting patterns for the future!

Stay healthy everyone!
