This makes swarm #3! 🐝

The first two swarms we acquired this year were ones that people contacted us about, so this one was a little different. We put out a swarm box and a swarm found it!

A swarm happens when a honey bee colony gets large enough that the queen leaves with a large group of worker bees to start a new colony. They’ll temporarily cluster while scout bees search for a new home, and this group ended up finding our swarm box.

We got them moved to the farm, so now we have another colony to keep an eye on. Three swarms in one year is definitely more than we expected!

Again, if you find a honey bee swarm, feel free to reach out to us! We’re always happy to come pick one up and give it a new home. 🐝

We caught a swarm! 🐝

We put a swarm box out a few months ago and today we noticed bees going in and out of it. It looks like we finally have a swarm! This is the first one we’ve set out on our own! 🐝

🍯 DID YOU KNOW…?

🌺 No two harvests of honey are exactly alike! Honey gets its color and flavor from the flowers the bees visit. That means honey can taste completely different from one hive, farm, or season to another!

Properly stored honey remains edible for YEARS!

If your honey crystallizes, it doesn’t mean it’s gone bad! Crystallization is a completely natural process, and it’s especially common with raw honey. Temperature and the natural composition of the honey can affect how quickly it happens. To prevent crystallization, store your honey at room temperature!

Oh, Java 🐾

This has been quite the ride. We’ve learned that if we want him to eat with his medicine, he needs it brought to him in bed. 😂 What a guy.

Update on Java, our miracle kitty🐾

He has been eating consistently (small amounts of wet food at a time) and for the most part, taking all of his medications like a champ. Some need to be hidden in his food.

He has been a little bit more alert and active and walked a full lap around the house this morning! He is slowly getting back to his old Java self, and we even finally heard him purr! 🙌

We are still waiting on his culture and histopathology results to determine what caused the rupture, whether there is still an infection present, and which medications he will need to continue taking. Continue to send good vibes as we wait for hopefully good news with these results. 🤞

On Monday he goes in for a recheck on bloodwork to see where his levels are at!
