Oh my. Spring is exhausting in the best ways!
Evaluating the lambs and chatting with their new farms to ensure they're going where they should.
Hatching, planting, weighing fleeces even though most of them were destined for the bottom of the new garden beds. Gotta keep those records. Life in general is busy and blessed and leaves no room for bad vices.

And we have naked sheep! Just in time too! The temps are near 90 - 91 this weekend! Crazy for April.
Thank you Riversong Shearing LLC for another season of shearing here!
Our fleeces had been rubbed and we're a bit felted this year. It's okay though, most of them are headed to my new garden boxes to line the bottoms, decompose slowly and releasing nutrients organically into the soil while keeping that soil from watering out the bottom of the beds. Win, win.
I did save a few back to take a closer look. Just not today.

My ewe lambs are all tentatively spoken for this year! Thank you folks!

My adult ewes moving on to new pastures still available for reservation now, are listed below and will be ready for pick up once their lambs wean.

You can visit the Finnsheep Breeders Association website to look closer at the pedigrees of these ewes if curious.

I really do love them all, but there's only so much room. Happy to share these gals with other farms! Besides, spreading the genetic wealth means I'll have resources nearby too!

My primary focus as a farm has been to uphold the breed standards, naturally, and refine my flocks fiber and form. I am now leaning into the milking/dairy side of Finnsheep as I've gotten the first two where I want to be mostly. My ewes have always been able to care for their lambs milk wise, but we'd like to highlight the triple purpose part of this breed fully. They are a unique representation of a breed refined by human needs in harsher conditions, where both thrived due to their association.

Let us know if any of these ewes fit for your farm!

Also- our angoras have been the side-kicks for a local photographer the past couple years for Spring Easter pictures.
Local folks - she does a great job and really loves her work!

Well life on farm...

We've been hyper focused on the sheep during lambing, but lots of other happenings going on too.

All breeding prospect lamb registrations submitted to the Finnsheep Breeders Association! (Wethers were not registered, because honestly what's the point?) Still could be though if that's important to their new people.

I've added some pictures from today below. See the captions for more details.

I believe we are done lambing. Since I pulled the rams a week earlier than I'd intended, one ewe wasn't bred as we missed her cycle.

We have 16 happy, healthy, bouncy babies ALL in white!

Ewe lambs have tentatively been spoken for. Will be contacting prospective parents soon for confirmation and deposits.

We still have two rams lambs available along with wether companions if they don't have a buddy.

We are moving some of our adult proven ewes and rams to make room for the retention of a few of these lambs. We can put together a ready made starter flock.

Photo below is from a prior year.

Ram lamb reservations are open!

We have to wether these guys soon, so we're opening reservations for ram lambs.

Triplet rams are growing well and have nice tight fleeces. I love the frame on Moonshine's boy. Violet's baby could carry for pied; his fleece will be gorgeous. Calypso 's baby was over 6 lbs when he was born and also has a phenomenal fleece! Any of these rams will make a new farm happy this fall.

If you need a wether as a companion, we can help with that too. Not everybody makes the grade to remain intact for us or other farms. These three did.

Blackberry had a repeat breeding to Theo. Two years ago, that gave me a chocolate baby and a black baby ( both blue patterned). This year - both white. Genetics are nuts.
Every single lamb this year is white. I'm ear tagging the lambs before we let them out of the "getting acquainted with Mom" pens and back into the general population. Sometimes I can be smart.
Getting birth weights too for all the new ones. Making sure they get a good dose of colostrum and get on their feet.
We made it through the freeze with our little set up.
Farming is hard work y'all. I'm tired, but happy.
Two ewes left to lamb and we'll be done.

This very handsome dude is casually looking for a new flock. He's just about worked himself out of a job here and looking for new employment.
Key points why we chose him in the first place:
Size - solid framed ram, good bone and conformation. Passes that to lambs.
Fleece - fine, soft, passed this on to his lambs too.
Blue/chocolate genetics! - rarer pattern plus chocolate.
Temperament- he'll come up for a scratch and comes running for snacks. Extremely food motivated, like me! 😆

Contact me here if you have his new address. He's willing to work for his breakfast.
