Sometimes nature does weird things for no reason and we luv it. It’s the little things in life, and at the farm there is such an abundance of little things that keep it all so interesting ( ), like this triple fairytale eggplant freak. That being said, we’re pulling a bunch of gorgeous totally regular totally delicious eggplants out of the field, too ~ we hope you’ll come downtown and rendezvous with us tonight at Creature Comforts Athens from 5-8pm for the mid week Athens Farmers Market 🌞 and check out today’s harvest!! Our full offerings are on slide 2, and word to the wise there’s also beer and music 👀 👀

See you soon!

“Summer CSA Week 2 could also be called Bittersweet Goodbyes Week 2. Week 1 saw us saying so long to Farmer Anna, who is now on her journey to the West Coast. And now, our dearest Farmer Emma has departed this week to begin nursing school full-time.

Emma joined the farm nearly four years ago and brought a lovable sense of whimsy with her to the farm. Cawing to crows, talking to bugs, wistfully staring into the distance, and sharing stories with no real point are some of her signature moves. A few years back, she stepped into the role of pack shed manager, and it’s thanks to her and our awesome pack shed crew that everything gets where it needs to go. Every wholesale order, market harvest, and CSA delivery has had Emma’s thoughtful logistics and direction behind it. (worry not, we have another awesome farmer stepping into the role so tour veggies will still get where they need to be!)

She’s also been a force in the fields, helping get crops transplanted, estimating harvests, and generally knowing what the heck is going on. While Emma has grown so much as a farmer and human over these past four years, one thing has stayed the same: you can usually find her petting our farm cat Chicken or catching frogs. And we love that about her. Never change, Emma!

While we will miss seeing her on the farm every day, we’re all so proud of Emma as she takes this next step. After nearly four years of bringing her energies, attention, and abilities to the farm, she is heading into nursing school full-time, following her path toward becoming a midwife.

But don’t worry, you can still catch her working our stand at the Athens Farmers Market on Saturdays at Bishop Park!

To celebrate Emma’s farm graduation, we’d love to share some photos of her with frogs over the years. We didn’t ask, but this is probably what she would want.”

(Yes we will be using this song every time)

“As we step into a new summer season, the farm is also transitioning into a season of goodbyes. This summer, we will be saying farewell to three of our beloved managers, Anna, Emma, and Alex, as they move on to new and exciting chapters of their lives.

Last Friday marked the beginning of our long goodbyes. Field manager Anna’s last day was celebrated with cake, a toast, a “yearbook” signing, a gigantic container of M&M’s, and more than our fair share of tears.

Anna has been part of the farm-ily for four and a half years and stepped seamlessly into the role of field manager nearly three years ago. She has been instrumental in fine-tuning our irrigation, managing our soil quality, field planning, organizing farm logistics, and keeping eyes on all that’s growing. She quickly became an expert on our John Deere tractor and all its implements, holds the honorary and never-utilized title of “HR manager,” and has always brought a ridiculously fun, incredibly thoughtful, and truly irreplaceable energy to our motley crew of farmers. She leaves us with a zillion memories of her hijinks in our hearts.

Something about this soil, and working it alongside other people seeking a meaningful life and purpose, creates very deep bonds. So while it’s incredibly sad to see Anna go, we are also very, very excited for her. As Anna heads to the West Coast for new beginnings, please enjoy this yearbook of sorts, and join us in wishing her all of our best. We love you so much, Anna!”
