“As we step into a new summer season, the farm is also transitioning into a season of goodbyes. This summer, we will be saying farewell to three of our beloved managers, Anna, Emma, and Alex, as they move on to new and exciting chapters of their lives.

Last Friday marked the beginning of our long goodbyes. Field manager Anna’s last day was celebrated with cake, a toast, a “yearbook” signing, a gigantic container of M&M’s, and more than our fair share of tears.

Anna has been part of the farm-ily for four and a half years and stepped seamlessly into the role of field manager nearly three years ago. She has been instrumental in fine-tuning our irrigation, managing our soil quality, field planning, organizing farm logistics, and keeping eyes on all that’s growing. She quickly became an expert on our John Deere tractor and all its implements, holds the honorary and never-utilized title of “HR manager,” and has always brought a ridiculously fun, incredibly thoughtful, and truly irreplaceable energy to our motley crew of farmers. She leaves us with a zillion memories of her hijinks in our hearts.

Something about this soil, and working it alongside other people seeking a meaningful life and purpose, creates very deep bonds. So while it’s incredibly sad to see Anna go, we are also very, very excited for her. As Anna heads to the West Coast for new beginnings, please enjoy this yearbook of sorts, and join us in wishing her all of our best. We love you so much, Anna!”

Ok let’s be real, tomorrow might be a little rainy. Forecasts are still sitting at about 50% or less chance of rain, but we hope you’ll join us rain or shine. Our crew spent the day harvesting a ton of incredible beautiful produce, and we’d love to see you at market and get it into your hands. Bring an umbrella, wear your raincoat, throw on your rubber boots! That should make sure we don’t see a drop of rain but at least you’ll be prepared 😂 as always in Athens we’re under the pavilion, and tomorrow the peach tree road market will be moved indoors to the cathedral, special for the weather report. Come take cover under our tent at freedom and snag some produce while you’re at it! We so appreciate your support rain or shine 🌧️ ☀️

“Most of us at the farm have never thought of ourselves as athletes. But after an awesome farmer wellness workshop with Cynthia Flores of Labor-Movement last Monday, we’re changing our tune.
Cynthia is a former farmer and current movement educator who is out here changing the whole conversation around farmer wellness. A crew of our farmers (plus our pal Paula from !!) had the distinct pleasure of learning from her this week, and she made some pretty undeniable points: farmers do everything athletes do. We lift heavy things. We haul. We squat. We twist. We endure long days, repetitive motions, all sorts of weather, and beyond that, a season that never really ends. We are strength athletes. We are endurance athletes. We are athletes in overalls. That’s kind of their tagline, and honestly it tracks.

In the workshop we covered everything from eating like athletes (hint: we all need more protein and water) to lifting heavy crates (we’re not lifting anymore, we’re “pushing the ground away!”), moving through repetitive tasks, and using our tools more ergonomically. Farming is hard physical work, and Cynthia gave us practical ways to move with more awareness, more strength, and deepen the conversation with our bodies.

We were honored to be Cynthia’s first stop on an epic multi-month road trip around the Southeast educating farmers! If you’re interested in learning more about Labor-Movement, head to their page . For you gardeners out there, their Instagram is worth a deep dive! They share lots of helpful movement tips that just could save YOUR back, too!”

This is some beautiful gigantic broccoli we’re harvesting!! The brassicas are coming on in a big way - beautiful broccoli, stunning cauliflower, and incredible heads of cabbage coming out of the fields right now. It’s a sight to behold!! We highly recommend beholding it all at our weekend markets and listening to this iconic song about broccoli on your drive home ;-)
