Finally! A break from the heat. Before the temperatures finally dropped a couple days ago, we had around 50 days of temperatures 90 degrees or higher. Sadly, we’re still in a drought.

I lost all motivation over the past month or so. Lots of garden maintenance was neglected because the heat was just unbearable. But, lots of things are starting to perk back up with the slightly cooler temperatures, namely the roses and dahlias. My Annie Oakley okra has never slowed down, not even for a second. It’s going in a pot of its own next year since it look over my entire veggie bed. 😵‍💫

AND! My bluebirds have finally started to come back around! I haven’t seen them much since their third brood fledged in mid-July, but they’ve been visiting the bird bath quite a bit lately and stopped to peak inside their nest box the other day. I’m still over the moon that we had 12 successful fledglings this year with no major issues. 🥰💙

Mabel and Percy have chosen our nest box again for their second brood this year! Mabel has been hard at work today building a new nest.

We observed a House Wren checking out the box a couple of times last week. House Wrens are native cavity nesters known to be very competitive over nesting sites and can give bluebirds a tough time.

Fingers crossed everything goes smoothly this time around. 🤞🏻💙
