Tanz Farm

Tanz Farm Performances, experiments and shops emphasizing sociability, experience and conversation in contempor Season 2\\ October 29, 2013- May 24, 2014.

Tanz Farm's mission is anchored in the agency of risk-taking to expand boundaries and render experimentation with forms of contemporary performance. Founded in fall 2012, in Atlanta, Georgia, by glo, a collaborative performance platform, and The Goat Farm Arts Center, Tanz aims to support intimate encounters between artists and public, offering people longer viewing times with new ideas and philos

ophies found in contemporary art. The season is shaped as a multi-layered platform of actions, discussions and networking in the field, and appreciates artists at all stages of a career, as well as new views. Curators Lauri Stallings, founding artist, glo and Anthony Harper, owner of The Goat Farm Arts Center. www.tanzfarm.com

This path-making encounter includes a subscription, four-part performance series of Atlanta and Inter/National artists, and free to the public initiatives. A vision of glo and The Goat Farm Arts Center to establish a 114-year old factory space in Atlanta, as an inter/national destination for today’s contemporary performance.

BLACK VELVET: Architectures and Archetypes is a multidisciplinary performance art piece that aims to reflect on the colorfulness of blackness--especially in regards to black women--in a relationship of love, compassion and camaraderie. In the work, creators and performers Shamel Pitts and Mirelle Martins research and share the sensibility of ideals, models and textures as a projection of self.

New York Times on performance artist Shamel Pitts:
"They traveled together to the south of Israel, where a production team had created a mock “home” — four disconnected walls sheathed in black nylon and filled with furniture. To crank up the entire production team’s emotions, Mr. Pitts and Mr. Maaravi were dropped off about half a mile from the site and had to hike, without directions or a map in the biting morning cold, in order to find the set.
