✂️🥜🐶 WHAT IF WHEN YOU SPAY OR NEUTER YOUR DOG MATTERS JUST AS MUCH AS WHETHER YOU DO IT?

Preventing unwanted litters matters. But is it time to rethink HOW we sterilize dogs? Hormone-sparing procedures, including hysterectomy and vasectomy, can prevent reproduction while preserving natural s*x hormones.

🔬 NEW 2026 PEER-REVIEWED RESEARCH

Over 10 years, researchers reviewed records from 56,254 veterinary patients, including 313 dogs with mast cell tumors and 638 tumor-free comparison dogs. The study was accepted for publication in The Veterinary Journal.

🤯 1. TIMING MATTERS!

Dogs spayed or neutered before age 2 had 343% higher odds of a mast cell tumor diagnosis compared with intact dogs. Dogs sterilized after age 2 showed no statistically significant increase.

🐕 2. SIZE MATTERS!

Compared with small dogs, medium dogs had 2.6 times the odds and large dogs 5.2 times the odds.

⚖️ 3. WEIGHT MATTERS!

Overweight dogs had 80% higher odds than dogs at an ideal weight.

🧬 4. BREED MATTERS!

Compared with mixed-breed dogs, American Pit Bull Terriers had 7.5 times the odds and Boxers 3.9 times. Some breed groups were small.

❤️ 5. WHAT ABOUT SURVIVAL?

Neutering status wasn’t significantly associated with survival after surgery. Tumor grade and size were more important predictors.

🔬 WHY MIGHT HORMONES MATTER?

S*x hormones influence immune function and development. Researchers propose that early hormone removal and changes in luteinizing hormone (LH) may play a role, but this remains unproven.

🐾 THE BIG TAKEAWAY

Preventing unwanted litters doesn’t always mean removing hormone-producing organs. It’s time for individualized conversations with veterinarians about WHEN and HOW we sterilize dogs.

So grateful to Standard Process Inc.for allowing us this amazing opportunity 🩷

We were thrilled to welcome Dr. Ruth Roberts' Holistic Pet Health Coach Certification Program graduates to Standard Process for a behind-the-scenes look at where our commitment to whole food nutrition comes to life.

During their visit, they explored our farm and manufacturing facility, getting an up-close look at the care, quality, and science that go into our approach to nutrition for pets.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to connect with others who share our passion for helping pets live healthier lives. Thank you, Holistic Pet Health Coaches, for spending the day with us! 💚

THE SAFETY SEAL HAS BEEN BROKEN.🚨 Let’s dive into a lesser-known aspect of HPP.

High Pressure Processing (Pasteurization) is designed to sterilize food inside its final sealed plastic packaging under obscene amounts of pressure. Yet most HPP-treated pet foods are reopened, reground, remixed, or repackaged afterward, exposing the vulnerable food to post-process contamination and compromising the safeguard HPP was meant to provide.

♨️ PLASTIC PACKAGE UNDER PRESSURE
HPP subjects food sealed in plastic to 45,000–87,000 psi for up to six minutes.

✈ ✈️ ✈ It’s the equivalent of balancing 3 FULLY LOADED BOEING 737 AIRPLANES on a surface area roughly the size of a standard credit card.

HPP destroys bacteria regardless of whether they’re pathogenic or beneficial.

🔪THE REGRIND
HPP-treated meat loses its natural pigmentation and appears gray. HPP’d food opened & remixed into the final finished product is NOT HOW HPP TECHNOLOGY WAS INTENDED FOR USE ‼️

It’s extremely risky because once a HPP’d product is opened and exposed to the environment it’s vulnerable to post processing contamination.*

🌬️ THE ACHILLES' HEEL
Repackaging HPP’d products breaks the safety loop. It defeats the primary biological defense of the technology.

The risk of pathogens is high.

⛑️ Final repackaging must occur inside highly regulated, medically clean rooms (aseptic environments), much like a pharmaceutical sterile environment.

TAKE A CLOSER LOOK
📍HPP requires flexible plastic packaging, what type of plastic is being used?

📍What about chemical migration? All the various phthalates tested parts per billion (ppb / billions)?

📍With this extreme pressure surely there must be some sort of warming of meat? Thermodynamics?

📍Was the food HPP-treated in its final plastic retail package? Or was it opened afterward.

📍Is the product being remixed and/or colored? Because HPP meat is gray.

📍Was the finished product tested after its final handling?

The holistic pet food community was built by questioning industrial conventions. Settling for broad assurances, incomplete testing, and convenient half-truths is a retreat into the very mediocrity it once challenged.

⚖️ OUR MEASURE OF DISTINCTION
While our processes may differ, our commitment to transparency must remain the same. A consumer’s choice cannot be meaningful if they are not given accurate information about what the choices actually are. We’re not fighting for agreement. Solutions is fighting for the consumer’s right to know enough to make their own informed choice. Knowledge is power.

Transparency cannot stop at the edge of the holistic aisle. If it’s valuable, it’s valuable everywhere.

I’m honouring Inuk by talking about the term Heart Dog, a phrase that captures the essence of a connection so deep, it touches the soul.

Spring is around the corner, and while antibody titers are ideal for most core vaccines, rabies vaccination is required by law. For adult dogs, choosing the 3-year rabies vaccine is a smart option and research suggests spirulina can help support the immune response.

A peer-reviewed study found dogs fed a small amount of spirulina had a faster, stronger antibody response after a rabies shot, without immune overstimulation, inflammation stayed low and normal. These dogs also had higher stool IgA, the gut’s first line of immune defense, which helps block toxins, balance gut bacteria, and support long-term gut health.

Spirulina doesn’t overstimulate immunity; it supports immune communication, gut barrier health, beneficial microbes, and oxidative balance, think immune training, not immune pushing.

Safety note: Spirulina does not naturally produce BMAA. Risk only comes from poor sourcing (wild harvesting, uncontrolled ponds, lack of testing). Well-sourced, GMP-produced, batch-tested spirulina has very low risk, which is especially important for dogs.

Dosage: start with 1/4 tsp🥄 per 20lbs of body weight.

🍐 Pears aren't just a juicy, delicious fruit-- TCVM recognizes their many lung-nourishing properties.

Lungs like moisture and dislike dryness, which is why the drying effect of wind (air) has detrimental effects on the lung system. Foods that moisturize the lungs are especially important during the winter when the air is dry because of forced-air heating used inside homes, or in dry desert environments with extremely low humidity. Foods that strengthen the respiratory system are called Yin tonics.
