Pine Mountain Grill — Whitesburg, Kentucky
There are places you eat… and then there are places that remind you why you love taking the backroads in the first place.
Today, Backroad Bites wants to shine a little light on a place that carries something you simply can't manufacture — history.
Tucked beneath Pine Mountain in Whitesburg, Kentucky, Pine Mountain Grill has been serving this community since 1997. But its story reaches back even further, to Peggy Childers and the old Sugar Shack, where many of the recipes that helped build a loyal following were first made. Some of those recipes are still being prepared today.
And that's what gets us.
Because food isn't always about what's on the plate.
Sometimes it's about the hands that taught somebody how to make it.
The recipes written down and passed along.
The families who came back year after year.
The stories shared across a table.
The memories made before anybody ever thought about taking a picture of their meal.
That's what a true hometown restaurant becomes.
Part of the community's memory.
Pine Mountain Grill isn't just another place along US-119. It's a piece of Whitesburg. A piece of Letcher County. A place where mountain hospitality, family tradition and good food have been allowed to grow together for generations.
And maybe that's the greatest thing about the backroads...
You don't just discover restaurants.
You discover stories.
Pine Mountain Grill, thank you for keeping yours alive.
Whitesburg, Kentucky — Letcher County.
This one deserves a Backroad Bites shout-out. ❤️
