Must apologize for not updating my site, but have been quite busy building a "tiny house" for one of our sons. Had to do most of the work myself; therefore, just have not had time to do much else. Sorry.

Having a "minor" problem between two of our boars. Big dominance issue between them. Considering selling one who is registered and with really great genetic background, but lead sow prefers the other.

Lots of action going on. Breeding of 3 females to start this week. COI of the litters should be 1.0, 4.7, and 4.7! Pretty great COI from each pairing. Moved the new gilt into the pastures last week and she loves the grass.

Things at the farm are going really well; especially now as things are drying out & grass is lush!!! Weezy due any day and we are eagerly anticipating her litter.

Weather still cold with sleet right now and temps. down in the teens tonight!
Some good and some bad news: Gig'M had piglets Saturday morning EARLY. All was OK at 11:30pm, but sometime before 6am Sunday she had 6 piglets. Unfortunately, it being her first litter she was overwhelmed and literally BROKE the door to the farrowing house apart! She had 3 piglets inside and then had 3 more outside in the rain/freezing cold. Lost 4 piglets! Have two piglets that we are bottle feeding due to the temp expected to be in the teens tonight and Gig'M is not willing to nurse the two babies. One gilt and one boy both doubled wattled and ginger with lots of black spots.
Have photo posted separately of the babies.

Texas weather is fickle! Imagine 73 for several days with bluebirds looking at several houses - then freezing weather! Plum trees had blooms and now frozen-so no plums this year. Pecan trees budded out -normally if they begin to bud no more freezes, but ain't so this year. Pigs are burrowing in the straw/hay, but definitely come out at feeding times. I'm ready for summer!

Opened the new wooded pen for Weezy and she loved it; however, she also found the water line and rubbed against it till it broke. So, water everywhere with Weezy looking at it like this might be fun to play in. Got to fix it tomorrow!

Picked up a pallet of pallet wood this morning and got most of the new pasture fence done (got 30' left to do). We had 4' hog wire with cedar posts and sweetgum logs as bottom nailer for the fence. Now we have been adding pallet wood woven vertically into the hog wire with pallet wood horizontal for added strength. Looks great and the pigs love it - gives them scratching surfaces at the fence.

wonderful and beautiful day today. Pigs out in force enjoying the balmy weather. Worked on hiking sticks and duck whirley-gigs along with lots of pig petting.

01/21/2019

Having some freezing weather with lots of wind, but does not seem to bother the pigs. Does me, but not them!
Delivered a wind vane to the local tire dealer today along with cedar pole for it. Has a BIG tire on it and looks good. They loved it!

01/17/2019

Added more wood slats to the pig pen hog wire fence. Got to make another run to the pallet mill to pick up more pallet wood.

Been cold and damp last two days, but much better than some of the rest of the country. Don't care for blizzard conditions and feel for those having to live through them.

Great day today. Pigs are all doing well. Was able to help two of our close friends and doing some good for others makes me feel good. Built and set up a new flying pig weather vane and took photos of some of the hiking sticks. See the photo.

Well it happened! We have wild hogs in our area of NE Texas, but up to now they have stayed away. This morning when I went to feed there was a BIG wild boar attempting to get into the pig pastures. Three shots (cause he was running!) from my AK took care of the attempt. I later used the tractor and front end loader to dispose of the carcass. Now our dogs think that wild hogs are fair game!!! They are protective of the Kunekunes!

Rains have finally stopped and the world is beginning to dry out. Got back on the pallet wood fencing project. Looks really good. No piglets yet! Waiting "patiently".

01/01/2019

The ground is so soaked that each step is a chore in keeping boots on. Doesn't seem to bother the pigs, but during the heavy rains they get in their respective houses and sleep. Not a bad idea for me too!!! HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERYONE...

12/16/2018

Finally a dry clear day!!! Supposed to last for a few days & it will allow things to dry out. Pigs all out and chomping on grass.

12/13/2018

Cut down two barrels and installed in the big girls pastures. Got lots more pallet wood and soon as I get time gonna cut some cedars for posts and add new pasture. This time with all the pallet wood going to screw the pallet wood planks to cedar posts and then paint barn red.
Weezy is really getting heavy. Ready for lots of babies!!!

12/08/2018

RAIN!!! LOTS OF RAIN & MORE TO COME. Ground is saturated and soggy. We are under flash flood watch, but not really a problem for us. Some of the roads near us will be under water, but not the roads we have to use to get in or out. Pigs just enjoying the dry houses!

KuneKune Pigs at Paradise Farm

Paradise Farm is a family owned and operated business that is strong on Organic principles for land and animals. We presently have 7 individual pastures set up for our pigs. Our herd of KuneKune pigs is growing with one sow(Weezy), three boars(Bo’Sun, Patrick & Benton), 4 gilts(Gig’M, Teasipper, Laura & Brandy) and one neutered Companion(Rebel) all registered with AKKPS (except Rebel) and from great bloodlines.

It is our intent to sell great bloodline KuneKune pigs to individuals for show, pleasure, pets, breeding and meat.

The KuneKune are a joy to work with. They are docile and do not challenge the fences; in addition they are grass eaters and when one looks at our various pastures the grass is lush as opposed to the rooting varieties of pigs. We also had Landrace and Red Wattle pigs, but elected to go totally KuneKune.

We encourage visitors, but we request that you call ahead.
