Man… this Mardi Gras season has been a bumpy lil’ roller coaster… a full range of comedy and tragedy. 🎭 Immediately at the start, half of the country suffered multiple snowstorms while the other multiple fires… Thanks global warming! Which meant not only utter devastation of course, but also that the good ol’ USPS had a good lil’ “inclement weather” time of it. And as for the other climate… you know the one that starts with a P? Yeah that one has been the type of fire you uniquely find thriving in dumpsters. But my favorite by far is that the cost of eggs has gone up almost 300% since what, the Fall? And according to current events the rest of our purchasing power is about to get way worse, but I digress because the worst of it all has been the loss of my sweet, sweet grandmother. The actual inspiration for all things Annette and Sumpter. But have no fear this isn’t a sad post!! Because although I had to halt production for like two weeks. I just got to spend the absolute best time with ALL of my family in celebration of her life. And I mean ALL because even my mom’s side showed up. (That just how we do it back home!) Back in the early 80s I straight up won the family choice lottery when I floated down from a cloud.. or whatever the hell happens when we sprout out of a cabbage patch. My humor, my joy, my fight, my outlook can all be traced back to these amazing people and my Grandma was absolutely one of many key players at the dawn of my life. You were extremely patient, insanely kind, incredibly Joyous, and just a beautiful human all around. Each day that I get to create my art whether edible or not, is a day I get to use my hands making something that sparks joy just like you and Grandpa taught me. I already miss you dearly, and I will always love you immensely. So with that just a lil’ Thank You to everyone who played along this year during King Cake Season. Not sure what this is going to look like going forward… or at least for the next four years. But here’s to Joy, Kindness, Patience.. and also a little Ass Kicking where applicable. Happy Mardi Gras everyone!!!

(*A little quick-scurry music to set the mood) Absolutely no one sees these because I never post 🤭 … but anyway yesterday was an impromptu quick lil’ solo trip; 4 hours up, a swift lil’ hour there, and another quick lil’ 4 hours back to ATL to check out Porter Flea for the first time out in Nashville, and it was impressive! Shall we call it a fact finding mission to try and expand these lil A+S horizons? I hope so! And if not, it was def an excuse to support my fellow small biz artists + buy some oysters, and a beloved little lumpy lime. I even saw a few of y’all who have done ICE shows down here in ATL alongside me, but y’all were all so busy selling your wares like hotcakes that I didn’t want to interrupt!! So if you happen to see this, “Hey Y’all 👋🏽!!” … Hooray!!!! 💜

Welp… Thassa Wrap! This king cake season was a difficult one. From the (usual haha) late start, to the utterly ridiculous, impossible to find supplies search (y’all, cake boards were non-existent), to the price of eggs … I meaaaan, who had that one on their “2023 is for Haters” Bingo card?! I sure as hell didn’t. Anyway, I just wanna give a shout out to all you beautiful people who still ordered this year despite the chaos of it all, it meant a lot. 🥴

Late Appreciation Post: Words cannot express how grateful I am for last weekend. Most especially for my guest co-vendor, my twin sister for hanging out with me, and being my second pair of hands, and eyes…We laughed loudly (not sorry about that) and smiled mightily… as seen above in our hilariously poor attempt at a selfie. But I was also beyond thrilled to have spotted a few friends new and old who came out to support, some entirely brand new folks sent along and recommended to come check us out, and we even managed to make some new fellow vendor frands!…. that right there is my jam. We just about sold out of sweets both days, and I’m going to take that lil’ W as fuel for next time… maybe now it won’t be years before I show my face around town again after all… tbd!

As we all know by now we here at A&S love a good spooky season, and we love a good Halloween dress up… AND we love a good Twin cosplay… And for fear of losing our names we do hope we did their likenesses justice (swipe to see for yourself… but also for the love of Zeniba, if you’ve never seen Spirited Away go find your blockbuster card STAT!!). I for one know that my powerful magic can only be matched by my (7 mins) older twin sister… who once made the most glorious, “simply because she felt like it, on a whim one random afternoon” Baklava … I’ve ever seen to date for having A) never once done it before, and B) probably with zero instructions because that’s how she magically rolls! She said, pastry school, Who? … The Nerve. 💜 Happy (Belated) Halloween!!
