Fall Open Enrollment is just around the corner. By September 30, Medicare Advantage and Part D plans should send members an Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) and an Evidence of Coverage (EOC).

These documents explain important changes to costs, provider networks, and prescription drug coverage for the upcoming plan year. Understanding these notices can help people with Medicare make informed coverage decisions during Open Enrollment.

Watch out for emails saying you have won a Medicare kit! These emails might look like they are coming from recognizable places, but they are scammers trying to get your information. They want you to click links in the email. Please report these emails to the SMP right away at smpresource.org/reportfraud.

Scammers might try to trick you into giving them authentication codes sent to your phone to access your financial accounts. If you are ever asked for your PIN, an authentication code, or your bank number over the phone, don't give it.

Scammers are impersonating the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and sending phishing fax requests for medical records and documentation, falsely claiming to be part of a Medicare audit. CMS doesn’t initiate audits by requesting medical records. If you get a fax like this, report it to the SMP.
