That should make us stop and think.

President Trump recently announced plans to allow up to 300,000 metric tons of ground beef imports over the next 90 days. Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins has supported the move as a short-term solution while the U.S. works to rebuild its cattle herd.

But zoom out.

America has lost of roughly 127,000 farms in five years. We have also lost 19.2 million acres of land in farms in five years... that’s 10,500 acres every single day…

At the same time, water is becoming one of agriculture’s most important challenges.

Now we’re rapidly expanding data centers, AI infrastructure, energy projects and other development that can place additional demands on land and water.

This isn’t about being anti-technology.

It’s about asking whether we’re thinking far enough ahead.

We can build a data center.
We can build an energy project.
We can import beef.

But we cannot quickly replace productive farmland, replenish depleted water resources or rebuild a cattle herd.

Agriculture isn’t just another industry.

It is part of our national security.

We should absolutely innovate. But we also need to protect the people, land and water that allow America to feed itself.

Because the goal shouldn’t just be affordable food today.

The goal should be making sure America can still produce it tomorrow.

You can import food.
You can’t import food security.
