Wow! It’s been a season! As syrup making season draws to an end here many of us this year who come through the sugar shack have said, “Jimmy is looking down and smiling on us this year!” This past winter we lost a guy who never missed many syrup cooking days at the camp. Jim Smith got inducted into our “Steam Chute of Fame”. These are people who got us started in this process of making sweet syrup and those who will never be forgotten for all that they had done around our sugar camp. Jim’s smile in that picture is the best way to describe him and the way he lived life! No doubt Grandpa (Newt) Weaver, Smitty, and Jimmy are watching above as 2025 will go down as one of the best seasons we have had making syrup in some time and nudging us to teach this unique process to the next generation waiting in the wings. I’ve heard many say “we sure miss those 3 guys” this year as they visit the Sugar Camp!
