Bag Worms! What are they?!

A co-master gardener and I have been working on a community project. Another local Master Gardener happened to see bag worms on the conifer tree informed the entity. We pulled every bag worm off the tree and sprayed as well. We filled about half of the bag of bag worms.

But what is a bag worm?! To research, I go! A bag worm turns into an adult male moth. The female looks like a grub that never turns into a moth. The male mates with the female through a hole in the bag. The female eventually dies with her eggs that will hatch in the spring. The eggs turn into caterpillars that eat from the host tree, or other host trees and the life cycle repeats itself. Caterpillars form their bag using silk, tree debris and attach to the host tree.
