We started working with the West Seattle Food Bank in 2020, when we were sourcing and distributing food in boxes through a federal contract. As our hometown food bank, they were one of our first calls.

We worked well together, and a few months later they recommended us for a United Way of King County project. That led to developing culturally relevant food boxes for a wide range of communities, delivered directly to homes. From there, we continued building business with our We Feed WA food box contracts, creating the foundation for the strong partnerships we’re proud of today—now providing fresh, low-cost food to more than 75 food security organizations across the state.

But it all started with our friends at the West Seattle Food Bank. They supported us when we were a small, local business still finding our place in food security and produce.

Of course we’re sponsoring their auction.

They put on a great event—one that truly reflects their values, their impact, and their ability to have fun. Consider attending, we will be there for sure!

We buy surplus from farmers—food that was grown with care but doesn’t yet have a buyer when it’s ready to leave the farm.

With the clock ticking on freshness, that surplus can quickly turn into a loss after all the work and cost of growing, harvesting, and packing. Once farmers have exhausted their full-price markets, we step in, purchasing that product and moving it at below wholesale prices to our network of 75+ food security partners.

The result is more access. More variety. And a safety net for farmers as they grow their businesses.

We work with Sno-Valley Mushrooms every week. Some weeks they sell everything (we love to see it). Other weeks, we’re able to move their surplus—getting incredible, locally grown food onto plates where it might not have otherwise landed.

Layers - a functional food system needs layers.

Cascadia had the honor of sponsoring and attending the Good Business Network of Washington’s Good Food Connections and Food Action Plan Summit in Seattle this week. As always, it was an exceptional gathering that brought together many parts of our regional food system.

We especially appreciated the Town Hall with Seattle agency leaders and councilmembers, who answered questions openly and thoughtfully, as well as hearing from Mayor Katie Wilson to start the day.

Many of the 70+ food security organizations that Cascadia sources food for were in attendance, along with farmers and local food producers we could connect with directly at the vendor showcase.

We’re fortunate to have a nonprofit like the Good Business Network of Washington bringing these diverse communities together. The chance to share space and learn from one another is something we value every year. But also, after 5 years of attending this event, we go to see friends.

One of the areas Cascadia specializes in is surplus produce. Farms send us what they’ve grown but don’t yet have a sale lined up for. Because it comes to us while it’s still fresh—often just days out of the ground— we can offer quality food in bulk to our customers at well below the typical market rate, while still helping the farm recoup costs of harvesting and packaging unsold food. This is how we make sure farmers are paid, people are fed, and nothing is wasted.

One of the bonuses of working with surplus is that we see some gorgeous varieties that don’t often make it into the usual sourcing channels for food banks and small food businesses.

Yesterday we received cases of “savoy salad,” a variety of ornamental cabbage. Nature has the best color palette.

Savoy salad is tasty, too—especially sautéed with plenty of butter and garlic, then finished with a little lemon juice or vinegar to balance its natural bitterness.

Jeremy, Cascadia’s owner and ocean fishing enthusiast, recently joined a panel at the Wild Seafood Connection conference—an event focused on helping independent commercial fishermen expand their marketing networks and connect directly with restaurants, brokers, and seafood buyers.

One thing was immediately clear: Washington fishers are a lot like Washington farmers. They face very similar market and logistic challenges that small farms encounter. The same barriers Cascadia seeks to solve each day - connecting local food with new markets. We learned a lot at Wild Seafood Connection, definitely made some new friends we hope to work with in the future.

With a large-scale freezer coming online at our Auburn warehouse in the months ahead, we’re excited to deepen our seafood partnerships and expand access to local seafood for our customers.

Cascadia Produce has some big things coming in early 2026!
1) More Freezer Capacity - Thank you to the WSDA for allocating grant funding that will help us build a 15-pallet freezer. We aim to partner with more Washington fishers and pork/beef producers to help bring their food to market, making their products more accessible to our food security customers clamoring for local proteins.
2) A new online ordering platform where folks can see all the different types of produce (local, surplus, regular wholesale) and wholesale foods we offer - all in one place! Finally!
3) Light processing capabilities - Something cool developing there, will update when more details are available.

2026 is looking to be a year where we BUILD.

You may know Cascadia as a local produce aggregator, or perhaps as a distributor of low-cost surplus produce to over 50 food security organizations across Washington.
You might even know us as a food box provider for Federal and State nutrition programs.

But did you know we also create Medically Tailored Food Boxes?

In these programs, we work closely with registered dietitians to build food and meal boxes designed to support people managing specific health conditions—like heart disease or diabetes. Every ingredient is chosen with care to nourish and heal.

Take these microgreens grown by Moms Micro Garden and Urban Farm, for example: a stack of individual-sized portions that are bound for our medically tailored boxes.

These micros are:
- Grown less than 20 minutes from our warehouse by a woman-owned small farm

- Nutrient-dense superfoods with up to 30x more nutrients than their full-sized counterparts

And the best part? They're incredibly easy to use. Just sprinkle them on top of whatever you're eating—and just like that, you've made your meal healthier.

Contact Cascadia if you are trying to feed people and need a partner able to source the foods you are seeking.

This holiday season, we’re continuing work with United Way of King County and DoorDash to help get fresh food and pantry staples to households that could use a little extra support. We work together to fill gaps in the system in small, but important ways. Good food, delivered to doorsteps, equals a much merrier time of year.

It’s a team effort, and we’re grateful to be part of it.

THANK YOU to all of the nonprofits and businesses and individuals that checked in with us, knowing we are located on 277th in Auburn - parts of which are temporary lakes - to make sure we are okay. We are, it's all dry at the Cascadia warehouse. In fact, Jeremy is out rescuing food from farms and local dairies who have a small window to access their coolers before the next weather event sweeps in. Today we are helpers, but deeply appreciate that when it is our turn to need assistance, our business and food security friends will be there to help if they can. I believe that's called community.

They say it takes a village - but sometimes it takes a team. A whole basketball team. Last weekend we welcomed the West Seattle High School basketball squads to our warehouse to help us build culturally specific food boxes for nonprofit partners providing supplemental food in their communities.

It was chaotic and productive - and a cool way to give teens a glimpse into the food system.

One of the only things that gets Jeremy out of the warehouse in December are events where we get to see friends and food advocates from our network. On Sunday we found ourselves at an event to celebrate new Mayor Elect of Tacoma, Anders Ibsen! We loved hearing his vision for Tacoma and can agree that community building is public safety. After we got to share a toast and some tasty bites with him and our friend Jade, at the VERY DELICIOUS Woven Seafood & Chophouse on Ruston Way. If you go, have the chowder, it's a smokey delight. 🍏🍏🍏🍏🍏 5/5
