A Golden History
Eclipse Mine Orchard
Our Mandarin oranges do have a golden history. In fact, they are grown on what was once the first Patented Gold Mine in Ophir, Placer County way back in 1872, the Eclipse Quartz Mine. The Mine was fully operational until World War 2.
The Family Legacy
In the early 1900’s, representatives of the California and Hawaii Sugar Company “C&H Sugar” came to southern Spain looking for workers for sugar cane plantations around Hilo, Hawaii. Both the Muñoz and Aguilar Families from provinces of Malaga, Spain came to America via Hawaii, before settling in Placer County where other families from Spain also settled. They commenced to work the land and doing what they knew best – to grow fruit. When Francisco Muñoz and Maria Aguilar married; they grew fruit in their own orchard and established the brand name we use today-Fresh Mountain.
