Showmanship Results 2026 Ky State Fair

Hard work pays off and this week at the KY State Fair the Gripshover kids reaped the rewards of the many hours they put into these projects. Beyond proud of them for the hard work they have done this year! If you ever want to know where we are the answer is mostly (like 90% of the time) at the barn ❤️ we would not want it any other way.

- He didn’t have a market beef (which we will never be able to live down lol) so he could not compete in that division

❓Do you believe in Love❤️ at first sight❓

Owen sure does 😉 especially when it comes to baldie babies!!!
This is his FIRST owned calf out of a gal we call CHERRIO (Copacetic x Revival). She was a show heifer a couple years ago and for Owen’s 10th birthday this year he picked CHERRIO to become his cow. Her sweet Baldie bull calf out of Reckoning made his day. Not gonna lie it made mine also to see the pure joy on his face - guess that apple 🍎 did fall far the tree. He has named him Fruit Loop and plans to develop him as a bull.

Honest question how lucky 🍀 is this kid to get a baldie on his first go??
If you ask his older siblings they would say not so lucky because it’s not a heifer 😂. They are in total herd building mode - I guess they got that honest 🫶.
Paul and I think he came out way ahead on this deal - sharp looking baby out of a stellar young cow. Good thing Paul and I retained embryo rights to all females - even gifted ones or we would be having to pay 💰 these kids!!

🔸Liquid Gold🔸 a.k.a Colostrum

The first milk full of antibodies that the calf must have to build a healthy immune system. Colostrum is thicker and usually has a very dark yellow golden color. The antibodies in colostrum are absorbed thru the gut only during the first 24 hours of life - so it is super important they get their bellies full soon after being born to have a healthy life.

A few of the heifers that calved had nice udders and abundance of supply for their little babies. We were able to harvest some and save for future use (freezer) - we will have it when we need it!!

Calving Season started a little earlier than expected but off to a heck of a start…

Around Gripshover Family Farm we have a saying… “How BAD do you want it ?”

I think this video answers that question…
Amelia drove all her pigs for Sunday videos by herself - 6 days after cutting the outer fibers of her Achilles tendon 😳. Her brothers were willing to step up but she said she didn’t need any help - Lord bless the man that takes this one on 😂. Not to mention she showed at KY Junior Livestock Expo (Cattle & Hogs) the day before - Boot and ALL.
Luckily we avoided surgery and she is in the boot until orthopedics says otherwise but that isn’t gonna stop her from getting her work done. Doctor says she can walk as much as she wants as long as she has the boot on - Amelia interprets this as business as usual.
Less than 30 days to State Fair…see you there!

Paul had some fresh help raking hay yesterday while Oliver is at the KY Beef 🥩 Council Leadership Conference in Lexington this week. He may have lost his position as the rake man 😂 and he didn’t even know it was in jeopardy.

Working thru another round of hay…
Lessons learned - fence fixed - moving on!

It would be faster & easier to do it yourself but teaching the next generation is so so important. A little mishap with the rake dolly, a bared wire fence and fixing your mistakes goes a long way in teaching valuable lessons.

In Oliver’s defense the rake dolly is much larger than the rakes we grew up driving so we have to give him a little grace. He is doing good and figuring it out but tight spaces are not his favorite.
