Has anyone else had the pleasure of trying to install a door k**b while your gelding is licking your hand and trying to eat the screws? The best part is said gelding is the one that broke the door k**b in the first place 🙄 he’s not even sorry!

On a sidenote, I had to use a hacksaw to cut the screws because he bent the door k**b so badly I could not get them to move 🤪

Time for a little fall cleanup! This time of year is my favorite time to take care of w**ds because they don’t come back right away 🥳 I bought a hose holder and it prompted several hours of tidying. Someday I’d like to add gravel and a bench to make this a sitting area.

It has been really long time since I’ve done a Journey update! She is doing amazing 🤩 I have been working on counter conditioning her trauma responses and have finally gotten to a place where she looks forward to learning! She is now excited to see me and requests games (training time). I am only using science based positive reinforcement to train her so she has full say in how long we play and when she participates, though these days she is always asking for more. I never touch her and only ask for her to touch my hand with certain parts of her face. She has learned touch, target, nose, star, we are working on cheek and leading at liberty. Tonight she introduced pets on her own by making me pet her face! Once we have a good foundation I will move on to asking permission for me to touch her.

One big thing I’ve been worried about is the possibility of her being a one person horse and unable to be handled by anyone else for things like trims and vetting. She put those fears to rest for me a couple weeks ago when she played the touch game with one of my friends!

She is a sweet, silly, smart and sensitive girl. Im so glad I’ve been patient with her while we worked through her trauma and I was able to earn her trust 🥰 I have high hopes now that she is learning so quickly!

I’m working on fixing the fence so I brought Poncho with me to hang out and snack. Obviously the grass is greener INSIDE the fence 🙄 This is why I’m always fixing the fence!

Today is the first day in over a week that the rain stopped and the sun came out 🎉

Poncho had a rough winter, he lost weight in spite of the extra grain and alfalfa pellets so any chance I get I let him out to graze in the yard. Today he ate for a few hours then decided to nap in the sun 🥰

I’ve been silent about any progress with Journey because every time I mention it, she has a setback. I can’t be quiet anymore. I’m too excited! I started her on a holistic ulcer treatment in June and since then she has improved substantially. She is much more relaxed and wants to interact with me. We’ve made great progress. She is still very nervous and we have a long way to go but last night, she targeted my hand and then let me hand feed her reward! She did it again tonight and I got it on video 🥳🎉

After destroying my riding mower over the past four years trying to cut the pastures, I finally picked up a new to me tow behind mower! It’s a little late in the season, but next year my w**d control should be on point 🥳

I must say the dead tree pasture is really coming along!! I only have 50 or so down trees to clean up and another 50 that need to come down 🤪 I’m enjoying this small section being all cleaned up though 😎

On my way to the barn to feed dinner tonight my heart skipped a beat when I saw a horse that was most definitely not mine in my pasture! Turns out it was just Gamble after is mud bath. What a goofball 🤣 In my defense he did a great job coating both sides entirely!

It has been busy here lately. Gamble was diagnosed with EOTRH earlier this year. The vet’s recommendation was surgery to remove all of his incisors. He had his first surgery in May to remove his bottom and incisors. He figured out how to eat quickly, but not keep his tongue in his mouth. This week he had his second surgery to remove his top incisors. He is healing well and has already figured out how to graze. He is so much happier now and back to being his sweet happy self. The only downside is, he cannot keep his tongue in his mouth. You will see him running through the field with his tongue proudly flapping in the air 🤣

This video is of him, freshly unloaded from the trailer after his surgery. He was still a little loopy from the sedation. He thought he was eating grass 🥰

To anyone with a horse with the same diagnosis, do the surgery! I had a difficult time with the decision because it was hard to imagine him being able to graze comfortably, but he has figured it out quickly and is so much happier and most importantly, pain free now!

Shortcake is ridiculous… why in the world would she eat fresh green grass when she can raid the Haybarn?? I have the gate to my property closed and they have access to everything so she spends all her time in the Haybarn and peeking in the door at me 🤣
