Meet beautiful Shirley 🐔✨

Shirley is the newest addition to our flock! She’s 6 years old and had been living as a lone hen, so she came to spend her retirement with us surrounded by other chickens again. 💛

So far, the transition has gone incredibly well. For the first 2 days, Shirley stayed out in the yard while the rest of the flock stayed cooped up. She stayed right by them all day long, and it was obvious she was so happy to be around other chickens again. At night, she stayed in our brooder utility room while everyone adjusted.

For the first time last week, everyone shared the yard peacefully, and we tackled the nighttime coop drama together 😂 The only one who gave Shirley any trouble was tiny little Lovey. We waited for Lovey to settle in for the night, then tucked Shirley back into the coop, and all was well.

Thankfully, Shirley is a big girl and seems perfectly capable of holding her own 💪 So far, this flock transition has been smooth, and we’re so happy to give her a soft place to land for her golden years. 💛 🐓 🏡
