Today’s product spotlight goes to the beard care. Why do we make two? What’s in them, why is it there. What makes us different?

We make a beard oil and a lard-based beard balm, and there’s a reason we make both.

They aren’t the same product in different containers. They’re designed to work together.

THE BEARD OIL — CONDITION FROM UNDERNEATH

Our beard oil starts with a carefully chosen blend of four oils:

Sweet Almond Oil — A lighter conditioning oil that spreads easily through the beard, helping soften coarse hair without making it feel excessively heavy.

Jojoba Oil — One of the big reasons we chose this over some other common oils. Jojoba is actually a liquid wax, made largely of wax esters similar to ones naturally found in human sebum. It conditions the beard while also being great for the skin underneath it.

Avocado Oil — Richer and heavier than almond or jojoba. It brings deeper conditioning to the blend, especially for dry, coarse beards.

Castor Oil — Thick and substantial. We use it to give the lighter oils some body and staying power so the blend coats the beard instead of immediately disappearing.

Put them together and you get a beard oil that’s designed to condition the skin first and soften the beard from root to tip.

THE BEARD BALM — CONDITION, PROTECT & CONTROL

Our balm is built differently because it has a different job.

Lard is the star. It’s a rich traditional fat and excellent emollient that helps soften and condition both beard hair and skin. And because we raise pigs, using lard fits our belief in finding value in the whole animal rather than wasting a useful resource.

Shea Butter adds richness and conditioning for coarse, dry hair.

Mango Butter helps balance that richness with a smoother, lighter feel and good glide through the beard.

Jojoba Oil shows up here too, bridging the balm and oil while providing lightweight conditioning.

And then there’s local beeswax.

It gives the balm its structure and light hold, helps control flyaways, and leaves a protective layer that helps slow moisture loss.

And we specifically choose locally produced beeswax because we’re a local farm asking people to support local agriculture. We believe that responsibility goes both ways. When we can buy an ingredient from another producer in our own community instead of an anonymous bulk supplier, that’s where we’d rather spend our money.

SO WHY USE BOTH?

Think of it this way:

The oil CONDITIONS. The balm SEALS, PROTECTS & CONTROLS.

Work a few drops of oil down through your beard and into the skin underneath. Give it a moment to absorb, then work a small amount of balm through the beard.

The oil provides the lighter, deeper conditioning.

The balm adds another layer of conditioning while helping hold that moisture in, soften the beard and keep everything looking under control.

That’s why we offer them together.

Not because we’re trying to sell you two products when one would do.

Because we formulated two products to do two different jobs—and they work better as a team.

08/28/2026

I criticized Trump when he announced plans to import more foreign beef, so I’m damn sure going to give him credit when I think he’s moving in the right direction. I still don’t agree that importing more beef is the answer for American ranchers. But what he posted this morning is a very different conversation, and one that could matter for small farmers. He called out the massive consolidation in meat processing and said his administration is working on legal changes to give farmers and ranchers more ability to process their own food. That right there is worth paying attention to. Most small farmers are not taking animals to giant packing plants. We rely on small local butcher shops, and that is where one of our biggest bottlenecks is. There simply aren’t enough USDA-inspected processors. You can have a great butcher down the road, but if they aren’t inspected at the right level for retail sales, you just can’t use them. So you end up hauling animals hours away, booking months in advance, or in some areas, not having access at all. And that creates horrific situations that farmers are put in. Say a healthy animal breaks a leg or injures a hoof. That animal may still be perfectly good for food, but it can’t safely stand in a trailer for a long haul. Right now, that can mean a total loss. Imagine if instead, a qualified mobile butcher could come to the farm, humanely harvest the animal under proper food safety standards, and allow that meat to enter a legal inspected processing system. That would be better for the animal, the farmer, and the customer. None of this is about lowering safety. It’s about whether we can have food safety rules that don’t assume every operation is a billion dollar packing plant. Give us more inspected local processors, realistic pathways for mobile slaughter, and workable reciprocity between states. That’s how you actually strengthen local agriculture, shorten supply chains, keep more money in rural communities, and give consumers real choices. When I thought he was getting it wrong, I said so. When I think he’s on to something, I’ll say that too. Now let’s see the actual language on the rule, because the details are gonna matter a lot.

What are your thoughts?

We’ve been keeping a little secret… 👀

And I’m not gonna lie, this one surprised me!

We’ve put a lot of blood, sweat, long days, late nights, setbacks, and probably more stubbornness than good sense into building Ahillen Acres into what it is today.

Pretty soon, we finally get to share something with y’all that I’m incredibly proud of.

Any guesses? I bet you can’t figure it out…

Stay tuned…

Beef Update:

Ground beef is out till Monday. We will be making a run to Morrilton(Springfield) on Sunday to pick up a few boxes of ground beef from Wahrmund Farms.

With the recent announcement by President Trump to import cheap ground beef there has been an influx on interest in local options. Which is great for local producers, but, keep in mind that lots of us are small scale and still have trouble keeping up with demand.

We carry beef from 3 farms in our store, all local farmers that put in the work everyday to raise their own cattle. We have always mentioned Wahrmund Farm, the other two beef producers are Whiskey Pig Ranch and ourselves.

With all that being said we already have preorders coming in for the beef we are picking up Sunday. If you would like to preorder some please respond to this post or text me at 501-827-0957. This will help me determine how many boxes to pick up.

Also keep in mind, we should get our ground beef back from our farm the first week of September.
