The thought of eating salads every day or bunches of lettuce and spinach can be enough to discourage people from following a healthier diet. Fortunately, there are a few painless ways to get more leafy greens into your diet without having to feel like a bunny rabbit. Many people who have difficulty eating leafy greens choose to drink them instead in the form of green smoothies. Green smoothies are fruit smoothies that have leafy greens such as spinach or kale blended into them. Getting used to the taste can take a little while, but once you do you can drink the equivalent of an entire salad in the form of a green smoothie.

Drinking green smoothies is an excellent way to increase your vegetable intake. Some common vegetables that can be easily added to smoothies are romaine lettuce, spinach, kale, carrots, celery, and cucumbers. Of course, you should not add all of these at once. Most people who drink green smoothies recommend a ratio of 40% vegetables to 60% fruit to keep it tasting good. If you are just starting out with drinking green smoothies then choose a mild green such as spinach and add a small amount to your smoothie. Once you are more accustomed to the taste you can increase the amount of greens that you are blending.

In addition to increasing your vegetable intake, green smoothies can also help you to eat more fruits. A smoothie may contain a peach, a handful of strawberries, a banana, some blueberries, and an apple. This adds up to at least three or four servings of fruit in one delicious drink. Most people thin their smoothies with 100% fruit juice, although some people choose to use water or milk to get their smoothies to a drinkable consistency.

It also increases your metabolic rate, which is what is responsible for burning calories. Eating a healthy breakfast is the best way to start the morning off right. Many people skip breakfast because they do not have the time to fit it in before they head off to work, but skipping breakfast can lead to several different problems. Skipping breakfast not only deprives your body of nutrients that it needs to function properly, but it can also lead to weight gain and other health issues. For a fast, easy way to get a nutritious breakfast, try drinking a vegetable smoothie. It can be consumed in the car, so there is no excuse to skip breakfast.

Vegetable smoothies are loaded with nutrients and antioxidants that our bodies need to keep us from getting sick. Using fresh, organic vegetables is the best way to make sure that your body is getting enough of the vitamins and nutrients that it needs. Vegetables that are not organic contain pesticides and do not contain the nutrients that organic vegetables do. Since you can add a wide varitey of vegetables to a smoothie, you are sure to be able to find a few recipes that are pleasing to your taste buds.

Though tomatoes are technically a fruit, most people consider them a vegetable. Tomatoes provide you with licopene and vitamin C, which are very important in warding of illnesses. Celery is mainly used to add flavor to the smoothie, but it has amazing health benefits too. Carrots are great because they are loaded with beta carotene, which is a vitamin that helps in the prevention of eye problems and skin disorders. To add even more flavor, some people like to add onion or garlic to their vegetable smoothies. Both onion and garlic have health benefits of their own, and they can add a nice touch to any vegetable smoothie.
