That’s why our small crew of java lovers are re-launching Little City Coffee Roasters, a brand synonymous with classic Austin, and offering a product sourced from some of the best growers in the world and roasted here in the Capital City. After all, coffee has historically been a drink for everyone, an inclusive experience like the city itself. Austin has always been a city that has thrived on cre

ativity and opened its arms to everyone. There was no better place to watch this scene unfold than at Little City cafe, the iconic coffeehouse on Congress Avenue frequented by everyone from lobbyists to film industry heroes to bike messengers to students to Austin's less fortunate, all enjoying a great cup of coffee. After the cafe closed its doors, we felt like something special was missing in our city. Just got back from Veracruz, Mexico, where we spent the week cupping coffees, visiting farms, and connecting with the teams behind them. We’ve been making this trip for about 8 years now, so it’s always great to spend time with our partners and friends and to see firsthand the passion and hard work that goes into each harvest.

Despite projections of record harvests globally, Mexico is having an off year due in part to a Roya (coffee leaf rust) outbreak, and cherry prices have remained high even with the recent dip in the C-market. Years like this are a reminder of how important long-term relationships are in helping us navigate market swings while continuing to secure coffees that meet the quality our customers expect.

Grateful for the time on the ground and excited for some of these coffees to make their way to Austin soon.

to my first trip to Coatepec, Veracruz in 2018, visiting farms with Mexican coffee legend Mario Fernandez. On that trip, we met several growers who would become key partners—friends we’ve worked with and grown alongside over the years.⁠

Later this month, I’ll head back to Coatepec for what has become an annual trip and the start of a busy sourcing season in Central America. Mario is sadly no longer with us, but I’m forever grateful for the growers and the community he helped connect us with on that first trip eight years ago.⁠
