Sweet corn and snap peas planted together. The peas capture and store nitrogen in the soil for the corn to use. The corn becomes a trellis for the peas to climb. The fabric keeps moisture in and weeds out. Two edible plants together across several beds.

New Year’s Day, 2026. I love an aerial view because it makes tangible the results of the farm’s daily work. All of the successes and failures, wrapped up in a singular photo. We’ve come a long way since this was all just pasture land nine years ago, and we have a long way to reach some Texas-size goals. Getting there is the fun.

We celebrate this Summer Solstice with the Texas Bluebell. These beauties grow wild on the farm. Decades ago, the bluebells were everywhere in these parts. But too much over-harvesting, herbicides and land clearing decimated their numbers. Several years ago here, they appeared after we’d turned some soil. We let them be and mowed around them. Their numbers grew dramatically last year and this with rainy spring seasons. Now we have very thick pockets of bluebells, plenty to harvest and share with the world and plenty left to self-reseed for the years ahead.
