Absolutely exhausted!!!!! What a whirlwind weekend it’s been for the St. Louis BBQ Society’s two state rolling double!!! We battled showers off and on both days including a downpour during turn ins today. Giving flashbacks of the Kcbs world invitationals last week 😂. After a frustrating day yesterday in Smithton we rolled into pacific,MO last night in hopes of defending our last Grand championship last year at this same comp!!! That’s right it’s been a year lol!! This is an awesome event with tons of stuff going on. I was so happy Karsyn got to go along with me this weekend!! She had a blast in the kids zone last night where they had bounce houses, face painting, and even a foam party!!!!!! While she was out playing dad was locking in on the cook ahead. Even as frustrating as yesterday’s results were for pork and brisket I knew the right move was just to send it again. I’ve Been here before. Woke up a bit sluggish this morning to get things started but pushed through and turned in 4 solid entry’s!!! Really just hoping for redemption for yesterday’s brisket!! We Headed to awards to await our results!!!
And BOOM!!!!!

🐔 chicken- 8th place
🍖 ribs- 5th place
🐷 pork- 4th place Prairie Fresh
🐄brisket- 3rd place

Good enough for GRAND CHAMPIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!
Base hits get it done again!! Can’t preach consistency enough!!!

Man it’s been a long year since getting to say that!!!
Congrats to our good friends Take It Easy BBQ on reserve grand and High on the Hog Barbeque on a close 3rd!!!

SLBS threw in an added payout for the overall two day total standings between these two comps. We ended up 5th overall! Thank you for that added incentive!!

Congrats to high on the hog barbecue for earning second place for that and Rock Star BBQ for grinding out the two day GC!!!!!!

After a long 3.5 weeks on the road including two trips to Tennessee (Memphis in May, KCBS World Invitational) and now this rolling double were due for a nice little break in action!! Not even sure when our next comp will be yet.

Well we made it to pacific Missouri for round two of our rolling double. Had a killer cook today in Smithton, to bad our results didn’t show it. In typical Smithton fashion we took a little bit of a beating from the judges. It is what it is and we’re gonna throw um the same s**t tomorrow!!!! Hope they like it!!!😂😂 thanks pat for putting on a hell of a comp as usual with great payouts. Maybe we’ll get a piece of it some day.

What a weekend of extreme ups and downs!! After the giant butt whoopin we took Saturday in the open contest I made a couple small adjustments and just locked in Sunday for the world invitational contest. As that had made two comps in a row on those grounds where we finished in the bottom 10% of teams competing. I know when it’s 100+ teams it’s always toss up but that’s not where we wanna be. Rain was also a huge factor all weekend as it did just that every day we were there. Especially Saturday during brisket turn ins. IYKYK!!!! I wore a trash bag with holes cut into it to turn mine in 😂😂. At the end of the day Sunday I felt like we really had a shot at hearing our names called. The two minor adjustments seemed like they fixed the day pryers issues. But you just never know! If anything I thought we could have been over on a few things but that’s usually the line we push.
And at awards later on we FINALY got to hear our name called. A couple times!!! Here’s how we did at the 2026 KCBS World Invitational!!

44th chicken 🐔- 174.26
12th ribs!!🍖- 177.71
32nd pork🐷- 174.27. 1st on the table!!🤷🏼‍♂️
27th brisket🐄- 174.27

20th overall with a 700.52 out of 82 champion cooks from around the world!!

Looking at the scores the judges loved the taste of everything we turned in but we had 12-13 8’s in tenderness which tells me I was right about possibly pushing a few things too far!! So that’s pretty helpful for the next time!!

Congrats to everyone who heard their names called add to Phantom Smoke & BBQ on the big RGC and to Wags backwoods bbq on the huge GC!!!

Well we swung and missed big today!!! Thought we had a decent cook other than brisket. Go figure it ends up our highest score of the day🤷🏼‍♂️ starting to think this place has some kind of personal vendetta against me lol. Good news is I could care less. Gonna send it again tomorrow!!! We are locked in and ready for tomorrow’s wells Cup open competition!!! It’s been rainy and wet since we got here yesterday evening. Just hoping it takes it easy on us tomorrow with all that!! Today we just sat back relaxed and rooted for our friends cooking the one meat chicken and ribs championships. Cooked some awesome shrimp on the Hunsaker 30g with some Heath Riles Cajun creole garlic butter rub!!! Time to hit the showers and some rest!!!

Well it’s time to come back down off cloud 9 after a very exciting and intense week at Memphis in May with team Heath Riles BBQ.. yall know how that went!! It’s time to lock in and hopefully use that to build on some much needed luck as we head back to Lebanon Tennessee for this years KCBS world invitational!!! A place that wasn’t to friendly to us only a few short months ago. Can’t wait to get there and catch up with everyone! Will be headed out around noon tomorrow!
