At Rocking Horse Ranch, our students learn every part of horsemanship—from grooming and hoof care to leading, saddling, and safely riding their horses. Before a horse is ready to ride, their hooves need to be checked and cleaned. 🐴

In this lesson, our student is learning how to properly use a hoof pick to remove dirt, rocks, twigs, and debris that could make a horse uncomfortable during a ride. While it may look like a simple task, hoof care is one of the most important parts of daily horse management.

Learning to clean hooves teaches children patience, attention to detail, confidence around horses, and the importance of putting the horse's well-being first. It's one more way our students develop real horsemanship skills both on the ground and in the saddle.

Because great riders don't just ride horses—they learn how to care for them.
