Our dream to open a hop farm became a reality in February 2014, when we purchased our home and land in Henry County, Virginia. With hopes to generate some revenue, as well as provide education about the viability of hops as a cash crop to the community, we purchased some telephone poles and aircraft cable,and planted 4 varieties of hops! We grow: Cascade, Chinook, Zeus and Nugget and have a blast
taking care of these amazing babies! Our love for craft beer and brewing inspired us to harvest and process premium hops into a signature, seasonal brew for the only nearby craft brewery, Two Witches Winery and Brewery, located in Danville, Virginia. At the end of the hops growing season each year, we deliver the freshest Cascade hops available, right from the bine to the kettle, for a seasonal wet-hopped brew cleverly named, Mountain Valley Red IPA. It's really fun knowing our hops have gone into this one-of-a-kind local brew and being able to grab a pint of it at a local restaurant is especially exciting! We love to experiment with our hops and the different flavors that fresh hops impart to all types of beer. We noticed a difference right away, in that beer grown with fresh hops just seems to impart a smoother, less harsh flavor that can't be found with pelletized hops. It was for this reason that we soon decided that our next logical step would be to open a small farm brewery and tasting room in order to share with the community the fantastic beers that could be made with fresh, locally grown hops. In 2016, we completed the construction of an intimate tasting room on the property and began building our one barrel brewing system. Craft beer enthusiasts stay tuned; we plan to be open to the public in early 2017! We are so excited to provide hopyard and brewery tours as well as to serve our signature craft beers! Just to wet your whistle a bit, some of our favorite test brews include a Chocolate Porter, an Apricot IPA, a Bourbon Barrel Stout, an amazing American Pale Ale and yes, even a Gingerbread Stout!
