“A Thankful Harvest”
Meet Bailey! She was my assistant livestock judging coach in college. She is one of the best and brightest in the industry. If you haven’t met Bailey or “Chip” the bull, you’re missing out! Follow her: Hinrichs Farms
My name is Bailey Hinrichs and i am from Ayr, NE. I attended NCTA where I majored in livestock production and agribusiness.
After finishing college, I returned home to the family operation. Currently I have my own Charolais cow/calf operation as well as work alongside my family with their Charolais herd and row crop farm. We raise cattle, corn, soybeans, wheat, and hay.
Its no secret to other people involved in agriculture, whether it be production ag, like myself, or other ag-related businesses, that 2020 has not been the best or easiest year. There are many topics that could be discussed dealing with the issues the ag industry has faced throughout the year and these are all very real challenges for the industry day in and day out. However, Thanksgiving is this week and I would like to take some time to reflect on what we have to be thankful for. Its very easy to get overwhelmed by the seemingly never-ending negativity we see everyday on the news, social media, and even scattered throughout our local towns. As I sit back and think though, I have an uncountable amount of things to be thankful for. I'm thankful that we have a free country to live in and to raise the world's food, fuel and fiber. I am extremely thankful for the men and women who fight to protect this country, and give me and my family the chance to live the life we do. While it might not always be mentioned, I am thankful for my family and friends who are always there to give a laugh after a long or stressful day. I am thankful that every single day I get to wake up and tend to the land and the animals that God has been gracious enough to place in my care. Every year after harvest, I am grateful that we made it through the trials as a family, and that everyone stayed safe during that time. Im thankful that after every long, cold night of calving, during the afternoon you can watch calves play in the sun, completely undisturbed by the world around them. Most of all, I am thankful that my parents instilled a love for animals and agriculture when I was a little kid. Though there may be trials and tribulations within the industry and some days it may feel like we are unheard, there truly is no better life to live. From being able to watch a tiny seed emerge from the soils to seeing that newborn calf stand for the first time, there is beauty and wonder all around us, and for that I am thankful.
Happy thanksgiving to you and your family. May you be truly blessed in this upcoming year!
