Exciting news here at Tin Roof Acres! Last night I bought a "new to me" chicken coop! It needs a paint job but is in good condition. A lot cheaper than a brand new building and will save me a lot of time not having to build one. Hopefully getting a little closer to my chicken ranch dream.

Not farm related....This is a t-shirt fundraiser for my best friends, Chris Rowson and Nicky Rowson. Chris has been fighting liver failure for a while now and was told he needed a transplant. He has fought so hard and with that there were a lot of ER visits, doctor visits to the Mayo Clinic, and quite a bit of work missed for both Chris and Nicky. Thankfully, Chris and Nicky received the great news that they found a liver that would work for Chris. While we have extreme sympathy for the family who lost their loved one, we are also grateful that Chris will have a new chance at life. This is why being an organ donor is such a beautiful thing. Chris will have a long road of healing ahead of him and they both have to stay in Rochester for some time. I would love to take some of the stress off of them by raising money, so they can focus on Chris healing and not financial burdens. These are the most loving, giving people I know. While most people would think this old part from a baby crib is junk and needs thrown out, I see an opportunity. I made a slow hay feeder for the horses with some old wood from our fallen horse barn and an old spring from a baby bed. Look how much money I saved! A great friend of my created a fundraiser to help with costs for Voodoo because we have paid close to, if not more than $8000 getting her the care and surgery she needed for her leg in order to not have to euthanize her. I wasn't aware she made this fundraiser until I was scrolling on Facebook and saw it. It was extremely kind of her because she didn't have to do that. I would like to tell everyone who donated to Voodoo's care, thank you. It was extremely appreciated. I don't ever expect or ask anyone to help me in these situations because it's a part of life and my choice to have pets. Even though it would have been so much cheaper and easier to euthanize her, she still had a 10% chance of this surgery working and that was enough for me. She deserved a chance to live more than a few weeks. She is my baby and my responsibility, and even though we don't have that kind of money laying around, she shouldn't be punished for that. For that reason, I am extremely grateful for the kindness of people who donated...I am sure most of them I probably don't even know. The money raised helped pay for her last checkup. Just for her to get x-rays, bloodwork to test for infection, office visit, etc. it was $500. Even though we would have saved thousands of dollars, I would make the same decision in a heartbeat. Also, a huge thank you to my husband for understanding that I had to give her a chance. There is nothing I love more than you complaining about how much money you could have if I didn't have my animals.

It was a busy night yesterday. I canned bread & butter pickles, dill pickles, and dill pickle spears. A huge thank you to Jody for giving me cucumbers from her garden and to husband for helping me. Also vacuum sealed some of the zucchini from our garden to freeze. I even made some into zucchini noodles.

Voodoo had her check up today at Iowa State. Things went well. The spot in her joint hasn't gotten any bigger and has possibly shrank a little bit. Since she is doing well and walking better with each day we are going to let it be so there is no further damage done. She goes back in 3-4 weeks for another check up.

Thank goodness we don't have to pay for another big surgery because as we were pulling off of the interstate our suburban started making an awful noise and barely running. The engine wasn't getting oil in the top half and the transmission was extremely hot to the point that my feet were getting hot on the floorboard. Since it was the only vehicle we have to haul our livestock trailer we had to unexpectedly buy a new (to us) SUV in order to get us, 4 children, and our two horses home...which is a 2.5 hour drive. We were barely able to get the old SUV to the scrap yard. We got enough for it, to barely pay for Voodoo's appointment today. I don't know whether to laugh or cry 😂😂😂 damn horse

Look who busted out of Iowa State large animal hospital! She seems so much bigger than when we dropped her off 11 days ago. She is putting a lot more pressure on that leg which is good. She is still on antibiotics and we have to take her back in a week so they can xray that leg again. If the spot inside of her leg has gotten bigger they want to go back in and do surgery again...but if it's the same size or has gotten smaller they want to leave it alone since she is doing well clinically.

This is what happened when we picked them up... When the ladies brought them out to the trailer, they had miguel hold onto magic and both of the ladies were lifting voodoo up into the trailer I'm not sure if they dropped her or knocked her over but anyways voodoo fell on that leg and was laying on the ground. They got her picked up and put in the trailer and said "sorry about the baby spill" and sent us on our way. Miguel immediately called the vet and told her what happened and that he just spent thousands on this horse and now we don't know if her leg sustained further injury. The vet came out and looked her over and said everything looked okay....still EXTREMELY unhappy. My little voodoo has been through so much and if they would have severely injured that leg, there is a very good possibility that it would never get better. I just paid them thousands to make sure she can live a full happy life and the least they can do is be careful with her. Anyways I can't wait to get her home after this 2.5 hour drive.
