Welcome back to Hunt & Harvest — Episode 2 Lakeview Pecans.
I’m with my mentor and close friend Ben Byrd, who operates a 100-acre pecan farm completely solo. Located in Bailey, North Carolina (Nash County).
In this episode, we take an inside look into Ben's operations on the farm. Ben grows and harvests thousands of pounds of pecans each year, manages one of the richest pecan truffle grounds in the United States, and runs his own tree nursery where he grafts, raises, and sells pecan trees himself.
This video follows a full day of Harvest ahead of the Thanksgiving rush — shaking trees, blowing row middles, harvesting, sorting, bagging, and packaging nuts. It’s a look at what day-to-day life actually looks like for a solo farmer in the southeastern United States and what it takes to keep an operation moving when you're the only one you can count on.
I'm incredibly grateful for the opportunity to document a glimmer into Ben's life on the farm.
