Happy dairy month!!
It’s also especially meaningful because 2026 has been recognized as the International Year of the Female Farmer—a reminder of the impact women have in agriculture, both here at home and around the world.
A few dairy facts for you on this World Milk Day:
🐄 A dairy cow can drink 30–50 gallons of water each day.
🥛 It takes about 8.6 pounds of milk to make 1 pound of cheese, more or less, depending on the breed of cow.
💪 Milk naturally contains 13 essential nutrients, including high-quality protein, calcium, potassium, and vitamin B12.
🌎 Most dairy farms around the world are family-owned and family-operated.
And perhaps my favorite fact…
❤️ Every gallon of milk has a story.
A story of cows that need cared for 365 days a year.
A story of farmers who show up before sunrise and long after sunset.
A story of families who dedicate their lives to producing food, preserving traditions, and nourishing their communities.
Today, I have the privilege of celebrating World Milk Day while learning, growing, and advocating for agriculture in our nation’s capital.
In a few days, I’ll be back in the milking parlor, washing udders, testing milk, filling jars, and doing the work I love.
Because no matter how far agriculture takes me, my heart will always be with the cows, the families, and the communities we serve.
Happy World Milk Day from one milkmaid in Washington, D.C. to all of you back home. 🥛🤍
And y’all, say a prayer for my husband and kiddos as they fill my shoes at home and tend to our daily life. They are my hero’s! 🩷
If you’ve not heard it today—you are loved.
