I never thought an e-bike would become one of the most useful tools on our ranch… until we started tagging calves. 😂🐄

Ever since Brodie discovered Yellowstone, the video games haven’t been getting much attention.

We left the gate open and one cow found her way into the fresh-cut hay field. Before I could get there, he was already on horseback bringing her out.

Not a bad way for a 15 year old to spend the afternoon. 🤠🐎

(P.S. Yes, the glasses are Meta glasses. He traded around and saved up birthday money to buy them from another kid at school.)

I’ve noticed a few comments recently from folks questioning how we transport feral hogs after they’re trapped.

Remember Tuckers chewed up tail?

Here’s today’s update on it.

Thank you again for all the advice and tips!

Y’all were all correct with the information given!

Every time Tucker hears us working in the shop, he crawls under the gate to come see what we’re doing.

The problem is he always stands up too early…

This time he got himself stuck and screamed like the world was ending. 🤦‍♂️😂

We put a GPS tracker on an undercover hog and followed his movements for 24 hours. Most people have no idea how much ground these animals cover in a single day. This is one reason feral hogs are so difficult to manage.

4.2 miles in 24 hours

Round 2 of the undercover hog experiment.

The first setup didn’t work like I hoped, so we’re changing things up and trying again. Catching hogs is a lot of trial and error, but every failed attempt teaches me something.

I finally have data points. Good ones! I’ll post a 24 hour track in 24 hours from this post.

Then I’ll post a week of movement in a week.

The coyote never showed up.

But something else definitely did. 🐗

Proof that feral hogs will get into absolutely everything.

Even Bait Reynolds’ coyote trap.

I had a great time hanging out with the crew at Lone Star Trail Podcast and talking about Draper Ranch, hog trapping, ranch life, and how all this social media stuff got started.

Really appreciate them having me on. It was my first time doing a podcast, and they made it easy.

If y’all listen to it, let me know what you think. Thanks again to everyone at Lone Star Trail for the opportunity.

Codie Bannister joins the show to talk about a recent idea he had to track feral hogs with RFID on his ranch, the Draper Ranch. He’s all about education and engagement while honoring a legacy of those before him. He’s a former Marine dedicated to ...

Had many suggestions after the last Bait Reynolds update, so I moved the trap and tried a few different techniques y’all recommended.

Still no coyote….yet. We will not give up.

We’ll keep moving, adjusting, and seeing what works. One thing about predators, they always make you earn it.
