We were graciously gifted a flock of nine ducks by a dear family friend. While their dining etiquette may leave something to be desired, these small feathered friends display commendable hygiene habits, engaging in post-meal baths and grooming to ensure they make the most of their day. At least some of us are able to stay clean on the farm!!

The evening's festivities culminated in a spirited game of Hornets versus Humans/Goats, with the Hornets emerging victorious at 25-0. Bill sustained the most stings, with eight to various bodily regions, while Dirty Harry received five stings, including one to his eyelid. I endured four stings to the temple and one on my hand, while Cheif incurred four stings to his body. James received two stings on the leg, effectively ending the game with a decisive skunk for our team. To commemorate the Hornets' victory, a diesel-fueled bonfire will be held during halftime. Refreshments will consist of Benadryl for the goats and coffee for the humans. The local fire department will be on standby to ensure safety for all attendees.

Preparing our fall garden seeds. The advantage of residing in a southern state is the ability to have two gardens annually, granted one has the time and energy to maintain it properly. Eliminating weeds will ensure a prosperous vegetable harvest this time around.

This little female Bantam Cochin chose this Barred Rock rooster and the hens in this enclosure as her family flock. She was hatched on our farm far away from this area. As she grew and time passed we let her out to freely roam along with multiple others in her age range however, each evening, one of us would find her there all alone up against the fence on the outside. We all found it strange that she continued this night after night until one day she followed my sister into the enclosure and began eating with the flock. Now, if you know chickens and how they usually react this is something thats pretty dangerous for a single chicken to enter an already established flock alone. To our total amazement nothing happened. She was accepted into the flock without hesitation. Farm life can teach us so much more than we could ever imagine. This little Cochin is a fantastic reminder to all of our hearts that family is not defined by blood or appearance but by the bonds we form with one another.
