“Through it All” is my song to Jesus this morning, another song that tells of the God of the valleys and the mountains. I look at social media and I see the hurt that is there, mothers praying for their missing children, marriages that are struggling, loved ones lost by tragic accidents, lost to illness , struggles of all kinds. I remember weeks of chemo for me in the past and I feel the struggle personally, there are struggles and issues going on in various parts of the family, no one is immune! Some of The words of the song go like this:

“Through it all,

I’ve learned to trust in Jesus,
I’ve learned to trust in God.

I’ve learned to depend upon His Word.
I thank God for the mountains,
and I thank Him for the valleys,
I thank Him for the storms He brought me through.
For if I’d never had a problem,
I wouldn’t know God could solve them,
I’d never know what faith in God could do.”

Psalms 23:4, “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.”

After a time in the storms of life, when we learn to trust in God, we will give thanks for the storms because we would never have learned the closeness of his love without the struggle. Walk on through the storm with your head held high, he will be beside you every step you take. His shoulder will be there for comfort, and you will learn the blessing of the storm.

“These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”
John 16:33 KJV

Do your trials in life make you just plain angry and dejected or do they increase your faith in Jesus? Now that is a challenge for all of us! Again, I try not to let my personal challenges show often in these post, but I will tell you this, a couple of weeks ago I was in Burlington on the way to Duke for a cardiology appointment. I had told Barbara the day before that sometimes I just get angry hand just want to fuss! My thought runs at first to “why me, why am I having to deal with this”, then when I stop and think for a minute, why not me!

We are all promised that there will be challenges in our lives, the days will not all be rosy and fun. If we live long enough we will have aches and pains, we will deal with illness and at some point, death itself. Folks this is the natural evolution of life itself. When we understand that this too is the road we walk, but also understand that Jesus understands and walks with us. He, in fact, underwent a death for our sake that was worse than anything most of us can imagine just for our sake, and he did it willingly!

Now I truly believe that God does hear our prayers and at times heals us from our illness, he certainly has the power to do that, but I also think that we really grow through the trials of life that come our way. I know that I have grown in ways through dealing with leukemia that I would never have grown had I not had to deal with that. My walk with the Lord has gotten closer, I have been able to talk and pray with folks I would never had met, and hopefully have been a little light in their lives by sharing God’s word.

“My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.”
James 1:2-4 KJV

Hold on tight and let your walk be closer because of you challenges, work to strengthen your faith, look for ways your challenges can be a blessing for those around you, sounds crazy, but they can be!

“though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered; and being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;”
Hebrews 5:8-9 KJV

That night in the garden Jesus was a man of flesh and blood just like you and I, he feared death and even more, he knew what was ahead. As you read the scripture you read that He asked the Father to remove this cup from Him, but ended by saying not my will but your will be done. As we look at the events going on in this world, as we see Christians around the world being persecuted even unto death for their beliefs, do you wonder? We need to look no further than to our neighbor to the north to see people being thrown into prison for professing God’s word as truth.

In the past I have been called names because of my writings where I called those that were walking in lifestyles that the Bible says are an abomination sinners. The now owner of the Blue Ridge Christian News called me one time and told me that he was receiving emails asking him to remove my column, Life Lessons, from the paper because I was a bigot and hate monger. That I was expressing hate toward the LGBQ community. I certainly do not hate them but I love them enough to tell them that what they are doing and the lifestyle that they are living is not of the Lord but of the devil. It is truly refreshing to see our country turning away from promoting this lifestyle.

When the religious leaders of the day came to arrest Jesus, even though He had all power in heaven and on earth, He held His peace. He stayed true to the Father and willingly faced His accusers because He knew the Father will. He had been preparing His disciples for what He knew was ahead. He willingly faces the cross to save you and I from the depths of hell, His blood was to be given that you and I might live without fear.

“Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.”
Hebrews 12:1-2 KJV

Don’t let the political pressures of today’s world keep you from standing tall for the word of God, stand tall and proud. Stand firm but stand in love for those that have fallen away from the the true word of God that they might turn back to Jesus. Don’t preach and practice false doctrine to make yourself appealing to this world but look to the aurthor and finisher of our faith and follow His instructions, not the the instruction of the woke world around us!
