Hello and welcome to New Zealand Cherry Update #1 for 2017/18 season.
Central Otago has been picturesque over the last 3-4 weeks as an explosion of cherry blossoms bring the district
to life after the cold months of Winter. Bees are active in all orchards pollinating flowers, as you can see
in the photos below. This Spring has brought warmer temperatures than usual and resulted in a condensed
flowering period on most varieties and frosts have been minimal to date compared to previous seasons. We
are not out of the frost danger zone yet and there are still some critical points in the growing cycle to come
before we can start to make any predictions on crop volume, start date and fruit size. Having said that growers
are quietly confident that if current conditions continue we will have some excellent fruit to market this season.

Vietnam’s pangasius export to the U.S. fell 5.7% to $176.4 million in the first half of this year, and the U.S. continues to be one of leading importers of Vietnamese pangasius. But, There is a high possibility that the U.S. will stop import of Vietnamese pangasius export from March 2018.
