Avian Flu Season/H1N2

Canadian Geese are carries of Avian Flu (viral H1N1, including H5N1 often without symptoms) Please report any sick or dead birds to the numbers below.

Key Points:

Natural Hosts: Wild aquatic birds, especially ducks, geese, and swans, are natural reservoirs for bird flu viruses.
Asymptomatic Carriers: Geese can carry these viruses and spread them through their droppings without getting sick themselves, contaminating water and fields.
H5N1 Detection: Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) H5N1 has been confirmed in Canada geese in North America, with cases in places like Ontario and California.
Transmission: They can pass the virus to other birds, domestic poultry, and in rare instances, humans, highlighting the risk of exposure near ponds and areas with large flocks.

What to Do:

Avoid Contact: Keep pets away from wild birds and their droppings, and don't try to rescue sick birds.
Practice Hygiene: Cook game meat and eggs thoroughly (freezing doesn't kill the virus).
Monitor Health: See a doctor if you develop flu symptoms after handling wild birds.

ATTENTION: There is a sign at the end of our driveway and there are cones crossing our driveway blocking vehicles from entering our poultry area. PLEASE DO NOT DRIVE THRU THIS DRIVEWAY. Our Poultry business is our livelihood. If you bring AI onto our property with your vehicle you can jeopardize my families way of life. I would not disrespect your your family in this way. Please do not disrespect mine or any other poultry grower in the area.

If I or any of my neighbors become infected, none of us will be growing in a 5 mile area. Think about it when you go out, not just my property. Thank you
