Nutritional Benefits of Maui Wowi -
Information based on 12-14 oz finished Maui Wowi w/ banana

2 Fruit Servings According to the United States Governmental Dietary Values, Maui Wowi qualifies as 2 fruit servings with banana. We use only the highest grade of fruit juice concentrates, fruit purees and then an added fresh banana. Bananas have long been used as an important food to boost the health of malnourished children. One half banana contains 301 mg of potassium, 1 gram of protein and 2 grams of fiber. Additionally, there are 61.5 I.U of vitamin A, a full range of B vitamins are present with .035 mg of Thiamine, .075 mg of Riboflavin, .41 mg Niacin, .44 mg vitamin B6, and 15 mcg of Folic Acid. There are 8 mgs of vitamin C. As far as minerals go, Calcium counts in at 4.6 mg, magnesium at 22 mg and trace amounts of iron and All of these health benefits for just 18 gms of carbohydrates. Putting all of these figures together clearly shows the banana as one of the healthiest fruits. Yogurt -
We use pure, undefiled, wonderfully nutritious, live and active yogurt cultures. Our yogurt is not the frozen soft serve type frozen yogurt (which is not real yogurt at all). In order to qualify for Maui Wowi yogurt cultures it must be raw milk and have a very low bacteria count. Our manufacturers have a policy of not accepting milk from dairy herds which have been treated with BST (bovine somatotropin or bovine growth hormone). It must be free from antibiotics, sanitizing chemicals, mastis milk, colostrum and rancid milk. It must have no contamination by bacteriophages. It is then fermented and homogenized (mixed really well) and finally pasteurized (heated). Yogurt health benefits may surprise you. It aids in boosting the immune system because of its live and active cultures. It encourages the right kind of bacteria to multiply in the intestines. This bacterium helps to digest food and prevent stomach infections such as salmonella or food poisoning. It contains a good amount of phosphorus and is helpful to people at risk of osteoporosis. Yogurt is a huge source of calcium and considered a better source than a glass of milk, due to the fact that millions of Americans are lactose intolerant. The bacteria helps break down the enzyme lactose before it enters your body, thus making it easier to digest and less likely to cause pain. If that isn't enough here's another big benefit – yogurt is extremely helpful in the fight against ulcers. Ulcers are caused by bacteria living in the stomach which is almost always treated w/ large doses of antibiotics when diagnosed. However, eating live active culture yogurt keeps the ulcer causing bacteria under control. It takes up residence in the digestive tract and starts competing with the harmful ulcer causing bacteria restoring a healthy environment in the intestines. A study was done at the University of California which discovered that people who ate 2 cups of yogurt every four months increased levels of gamma interferon which is a protein that helps blood cells fight off disease. Gamma interferon is one of the best defenses against viruses. So for the many reasons we've outlined, live active bacteria cultures in our yogurt will provide a multitude of health benefits. Hawaii - The only U.S State that is still growing!

It's all about the "Ring of Fire" and Hotspots! Check out this great video to see how the Hawaiian Islands were formed by volcanoes.

A volcano is an opening, or rupture, in a planet's surface or crust, which allows hot, molten rock, ash, and gases to escape from below the surface. Volcanic activity involving the extrusion of rock tends to form mountains or features like mountains over a period of time. Volcanoes are generally ...

Why Kona Coffee Is Different : In order to be called “Kona Coffee,” coffee must be grown in a small area on the West Coast of the Big Island of Hawaii. The Kona Coffee growing region is only about fifty square miles in all, and is farmed largely by small landowners.

Like much of Hawaii, Kona offers ideal climate conditions for growing coffee. But there is something different about the Kona coffee cherries produced here that has earned this coffee a worldwide reputation for excellence. It might be the dark rich volcanic soil, which contains a perfect blend of acidity and minerals, and retains just the right amount of water. It could be the dependable cloud cover that rolls in each afternoon, protecting the delicate coffee trees from the glaring afternoon sun.

The difference could also lie in the care with which Kona coffee is handpicked, ensuring that only the highest quality berries are harvested for coffee production. The rarest of Kona Coffee beans is Peaberry, making up only four to five percent of the entire Kona crop each year. Peaberry is unusual because each coffee cherry contains only one bean, while all other types of Kona contain two beans per cherry.

There are many things that set Kona Coffee apart from other coffees. Taste it and find out for yourself what makes Kona Coffee so special!

I Don't want to bore you with too many facts about nutrition, but I think that the following info will give you a basic understanding of difference between fructose (natural fruit sugar) and the other stuff that companies put into their smoothies! They claim real fruit, but what else is in them to make 'em taste good? - CARBS TO CONSUME WITH CAUTION Conventional wisdom says that since all carbohydrates are eventually digested and absorbed as glucose, the original food source of the sugar, whether a bean or a candy bar, matters little. Sugar is sugar. Sucrose is sucrose. Not exactly! New insights into how various sugars behave in the body has revealed otherwise. While it is true that the sucrose in an orange is chemically the same as the sucrose in the much-maligned table sugar, the fact that the sucrose in the orange is packaged along with other nutrients makes it behave biochemically more friendly in the body. When you eat sucrose as naturally part of fruits or vegetables, you get not only vitamins and minerals in the package, but you get fiber and other complex carbohydrates that steady the absorption of the sugar. Yet, take the sugar away from the rest of the fruit and vegetable and refine it into a powder, and it's this processing that downgrades sucrose from the healthy to the junk food category. So, it's the company the sugar keeps with other foods that affects its absorption from the intestines and its consequent behavior in the body. To understand why these sugars merit the label "junk sugars," let's take a ride with these sugars from the mouth to the bloodstream to see how they affect the body. Junk sugars are called simple carbohydrates because they are short, uncomplicated molecules. Because simple sugars are already so small, they require little or no breaking down in the intestines. The sucrose molecule is quickly broken down into glucose and fructose, and all that glucose is actively pumped through the intestinal cells quickly into the bloodstream. A sprinkle of sugar that hits the intestines enters the bloodstream almost immediately, and the roller coaster ride begins. After the refined sugars rush into the bloodstream, blood sugar levels rise, pressuring the pancreas to release insulin, the hormone needed to es**rt these sugars into the body's cells. Lots of insulin helps the sugar get used up rapidly, but then the blood sugar level plunges. The body hits a sugar low, also known as hypoglycemia or "sugar blues." Now, just as insulin was released when the blood sugar was too high, other hormones are released when the blood sugar is too low. These stress hormones want to restore the blood sugar to normal levels, so they squeeze stored sugar from the liver, sending the blood sugar back up. These adjustments work better in some people than in others and better in some circumstances than others. Sugar-sensitive individuals experience the ups and downs of blood sugar levels as a roller-coaster ride, and their moods and behavior go up and down with their blood sugar. My source is linked here.
