Learned something new yesterday...
After all the rain we had, 2 days steady without a break, some of our plants were suffering. We didn't notice anything until the wind picked up but many of the large leafed melon type plants looked droopy.
What we learned was that when roots get saturated the smaller feeder roots can die off. Because of this the plant can't get enough oxygen.
The wind was causing extreme transportation and the plants could not take up enough water to accommodate because of the root damage from too much water.
We were able to save them all.
Plants still in pots we moved to the greenhouse and placed on a heat mat.
Getting them out of the wind & drying the soil.
The plants in the ground we had to "tent". We covered with old bed sheets for a few hours. This was to keep the wind off of them.
So it was a combination off saturated soil & then too much wind.
Learning new aspects to gardening is why I enjoy this .
And very thankful we were able to save all the plants.
