A Personal Update from Chef/Owner Susan Hayes ❤️
First, I want to thank everyone for the incredible love, support, and well wishes.
On Thursday evening, I suffered a serious hand injury that required the amazing Bandon paramedics to respond. I was transported to Bay Area Hospital before being transferred to RiverBend Hospital in Eugene for emergency surgery. I'm recovering well, staying positive, and will be returning to Bandon today. My goal is to be back at Alloro this week as I continue to heal.
Most importantly, I want everyone to know this:
Alloro Wine Bar & Restaurant is OPEN and operating exactly as planned. We are opening at 4:00 PM today, Saturday, July 4th, and we never closed during this incident.
As the proud chef and owner of Alloro Wine Bar & Restaurant, I've always believed that a great restaurant is built on a great team—not one person. For years, I've intentionally focused on cross-training every member of our kitchen and service staff so they can confidently step up whenever life throws us the unexpected. This is exactly why we do it.
This has never been a one-chef show.
Our talented team has always been capable of delivering the exceptional dining experience our guests expect, and they proved it once again during a very difficult evening.
I cannot thank this incredible crew enough. A heartfelt thank you to Mike, Ed, Kira, Sarah, Jake, Veronika, Nicole, and David for your extraordinary professionalism, teamwork, generosity, and genuine care for one another, our guests, and me. You handled an incredibly challenging shift with grace, and I couldn't be more proud.
I've also become aware of some local rumors circulating online, so I wanted to share the facts directly.
Alloro Wine Bar & Restaurant is fully open, our team is stronger than ever, and they insist that my only job right now is to heal completely.
Over the next few weeks, I hope you'll stop in, enjoy an amazing meal, and support this wonderful team. You'll probably even see me enjoying dinner with guests in our beautiful dining room while I recover.
