Welcome to 2024! As we have come off an exciting holiday season and several birthdays to begin the new year it's time to start the herbs! This year for herbs we have 16 and already 13 have germinated!! Soon it will be time to start seedlings and this March 23rd we plant the peas! Time is flying!!

How’s everyone doing on gardening? This season is going slow here on the homestead… it feels like it anyway…chives have been harvested twice this year and looking like a third time coming up. Garlic scape pesto is done and waiting for the garlic to get the four dead leaves before I pull it. Peas are going crazy this year even though they were three weeks later than normal as the ground was still frozen. Picking,shucking, rinsing, blanching, freezing and bagging for the freezer has begun!

First time making echinacea tincture… it’s a process but here’s step 1 … collect leaves before any buds or flowers stuff leaves in a jar and cover with tincture solution. These will sit until a few buds are added and then a few flowers and the last part is the root… I’ll post as I go. ❤️

The scape harvesting has begun to trickle in…once they are all collected it’s garlic scape pesto time! Will update when the process starts for the pesto with a recipe so you can try it!

First crop of harvesting season!! Onion Chives!! This year we froze chives and added a new item to our cupboard chive blossom vinegar! Since we have leftover blossoms we may make chive blossom butter! Never hurts to try new things!!

Probably the best day of the weekend/upcoming week weather wise….have to get done what you can. Nothing is on schedule this year. Peas are popping and both gardens tilled!! Let’s go!! ❤️
