I've been putting off making this post because it's not an easy one to write.
For as long as I've been processing deer, I've always done my best to be available 7 days a week, only closing when my cooler was completely full. I've always tried to accommodate everyone because I truly appreciate every single customer who trusts me with their deer.
When I first started this business, my goal was simply to help the people in my community. I never imagined it would grow into what it has become. I'm incredibly thankful for that, but somewhere along the way, it grew a whole lot bigger than I ever expected. I'm now having people travel over an hour to bring their deer to me, and during the season I'm accepting anywhere from 6–10 deer a day.
As much as I appreciate that, the truth is, for one person, that's just not sustainable so this year is going to look a little different for my family.
My husband and I have made the decision to homeschool our three children. It's something we've put a lot of thought into, and we truly feel it's the right choice for our family. Because of that, my processing hours will be more limited this season.
**With that said, I will be CLOSED the remainder of this week and will reopen on Saturday. Whether or not I accept deer on Sunday will be dependant on how many come in on Saturday. ***
I know that may be an inconvenience for some, and I truly hate that. But I also know that if I try to keep the same schedule while homeschooling, something is going to suffer. And one thing I'm not willing to compromise on is the quality of your meat.
I've purposely chosen not to hire a bunch of people to help just so I can stay open more hours. That's not because I don't appreciate the help or because I think nobody else can work hard. It's because this is my name, my business, and my reputation. I want to know that every deer leaving my shop has been handled the way I would handle it myself and meets the standards I've set for my business.
I'd rather process fewer deer and do them right than take on more than I can handle and let the quality slip.
This business has always been built around family, and at the end of the day, my kids only get one childhood. My customers mean the world to me, and I hope you know how thankful I am for your support over the years. But right now, my biggest job is being their mom.
I'm still going to work hard, I'm still going to take pride in every deer that comes through my door, and I'm still going to give every customer the same care and attention I've always given them. I just have to do it within a schedule that allows me to be the mom I want to be, too.
Thank you for sticking with my family, supporting a small business, and trusting me season after season. It truly means more than I can put into words. I hope you'll understand why this change is important to me, and I look forward to another great deer season with all of you. ❤️🦌
