Happy rides by at a gallop,
But trouble rides double.
This whole year has been that way. Seems bad stuff happens one right after another, until even the little ones swell like ticks. Sometime the folks you treat right are rotten to you.
Sometimes the blessings are a curse, like when you have more critters born than you can feed.
Other times the curses are a blessing. Like when the tree falls, but the sheep eat on the leaves for three days. Life’s a gunfight. Sometimes you just gotta stop to patch up the holes, count your shells and keep firing.
I hope you can still count your blessings when things are rough.
Sometimes all you get is a hint of something good to come.
You have to look hard.

On the Ranch, when I moved in there were two truck tires hung up high with hay twine. Very puzzling for the first year until I realized that pigeons use them for a safe nesting spot every year about this time.
This year, the unofficial Ranch pigeons have had a very good year, being fruitful and multiplying. Which means that as food goes more scarce this summer, the foxes will also have a very good year eating them.
……I think about this everytime I am forced to pay taxes.

Lookin for work.
Not a path to career advancement, employment opportunity, position, calling or passion.
Just work.
No horrible backstabbing coworkers, no 90 lb jackhammers or roofing in the summer, no exposure to chemicals, manure, or doing horrible soul crushing, exhausting, dangerous things for just enough gas money to get to work and a sandwich.
I’ve already had too much experience with all of that.
I’m just looking for work that I am smart enough to do, for the next 20 years or at least until my kids can feed themselves.
Then I can be done.
