🍁 Fall Dahlia Workshop at the Cottage

I have 2 spots left for my Fall Dahlia Workshop on Saturday, October 24th from 11 AM–1 PM.

We’ll spend our time walking through the fall dahlia process together, from digging in the garden to dividing and storing tubers for winter.

We’ll cover:

🌿 Cutting back and digging
🌿 Washing and drying tuber clumps
🌿 Identifying healthy eyes and dividing
🌿 Curing and labeling tubers
🌿 Different winter storage methods
🌿 My Saran Wrap method for compact storage
🌿 Tools and sanitizing between clumps
🌿 What to look for when checking tubers through the winter

You’ll also go home with a small thermometer/hygrometer, notebook and pens, a garden marker, a fall storage guide and a spring growing reference card.

And because it’s fall at the Cottage, there will be hot c***r, tea and a cozy treat to enjoy along the way. 🍎

What a week 🌿

Since the article about Phantom Brook Blooms & Bread appeared in The Mount Desert Islander, I’ve had so many new faces find their way here—and I just want to say welcome to the Cottage! 🤍

Thank you to everyone who has followed, subscribed to the Cottage List, shared the article, sent a message, or simply left such kind words. I’ve been genuinely touched by the response and by how many of you have taken the time to tell me how much you enjoyed the story.

For those who are new here, the Cottage is my little seasonal side business in Salisbury Cove, where I grow flowers and bake sourdough and other homemade treats on a very small scale.

I open the Cottage on select Sundays from 1-5pm, and I also occasionally have dahlias available by the stem from the little flower stand at the end of the road. 🌸

This Sunday is our next Cottage Drop, and I’m already sold out of the bread through pre-orders, but have a few muffins and cookies still available.

I’m so glad you’re here. Thank you for helping this little Cottage continue to grow 🌿

When your friend Chandra Iris and fellow farmstand owner visits Maine and, while on vacation, keeps whipping up amazing creations with no recipe and no way to measure ingredients—and somehow still cranks out the most amazing scones 😍

If you find yourself in Warner, NH, be sure to stop by her stand, Country Crust, and taste these goodies for yourself!

I sampled both the Oreo scones and the White Chocolate Coffee scones, and both were fantastic!! Not going to reveal whether I ate them all in one sitting 😏

This made my heart so happy ❤️

One of the best parts of creating Phantom Brook Blooms & Bread has been becoming part of this wonderful community of people who are dreaming up their own things and making them happen.

My friend Chandra Iris Pfeiffer stopped by the cottage yesterday with her family while traveling through Maine and wrote the sweetest post about the small businesses and farm stands she’s visited along the way. I’m so grateful she included me in her adventures 🥹

It was such a lovely Sunday, and I’m so grateful for everyone who continues to support this little cottage business.

The baked goods sold out through pre-orders this week, but I still have some beautiful mixed bouquets available. Fresh flowers are also available throughout the week with advance notice.

If you joined my dahlia workshop, here’s a quick refresher on pinching your plants 🌸 It feels a little scary the first time, but removing the growing tip encourages branching—which means stronger plants and lots more blooms later in the season. Save this video for when your dahlias are ready to be pinched - approximately 12-16” tall.
