Our former farmhand, my Son, Dad’s Grandson… officially matched for a residency in . From working the land to working toward saving lives, watching this dream come together has been nothing short of incredible. The pride, the relief, the gratitude… it is all so overwhelming in the best way possible. 🫶🏾

Happy Black History Month! The story of American agriculture cannot be told without honoring the strength, brilliance, and perseverance of Black Americans who shaped the land with their hands, minds, and hearts. From forced labor during enslavement to independent farming and agricultural leadership, Black Americans carried deep knowledge of the soil, seasons, and sustainability. Even in the face of RACISM, LAND THEFT, and EXCLUSION from resources, we transformed farming into a source of survival, resistance, and hope by feeding families, building communities, and sustaining the nation.

Few names shine brighter than George Washington Carver, whose love for the land revolutionized Southern agriculture. Carver taught farmers how to heal exhausted soil through crop rotation and introduced peanuts, sweet potatoes, and other alternative crops that brought both nourishment and economic opportunity. His work was not just science. It was empowerment. Booker T. Washington, through the Tuskegee Institute, carried that mission forward by teaching Black farmers practical agricultural skills, proving that education and land ownership could be powerful tools of freedom and self determination.

The legacy continues through innovators and freedom fighters like Henry Blair, a farmer and an inventor whose seed and cotton planters improved efficiency and productivity, and Fannie Lou Hamer, who founded the Freedom Farm Cooperative so Black families could grow their own food and reclaim dignity during the Civil Rights Movement. Today, leaders like John Boyd Jr. fight to protect Black farmers from land loss and injustice. These stories are not just history. They are a testament to resilience, courage, and love for the land. This Black History Month, we honor the farmers who planted more than crops. Despite a sustained war on Black lives, Black American farmers built generations of strength, independence, and possibility.

The Lamar County planning and zoning meeting, expected to be routine, erupted into chaos when an overwhelming number of residents flooded the small office. With the crowd too large to manage, officials hastily moved the meeting to the courthouse late at night only to spark even more confusion as many more people showed up.

The courthouse parking lot overflowed, tempers flared, and the atmosphere was electric as residents awaited debate over a nearly 700 acre rezoning proposal from agricultural to manufacturing and industrial use. But just as proceedings began, the applicant requested a postponement due to the abrupt venue change. This move ignited outrage among the packed audience.

Despite the uproar, officials had to delay the issue, likely until January 2026, to avoid legal risk. The meeting ended in frustration, leaving the community more united and determined to fight the rezoning when it returns.

Residents of Lamar County, today’s meeting is one that could shape the future of our community for generations. A proposal has been put forward to rezone a large portion of agricultural land into manufacturing and industrial use. This decision goes far beyond lines on a map. It reaches deep into the heart of who we are as a rural county that values clean air, open spaces, and the health of our families. Your voice, your presence, and your questions matter tonight more than ever.

There are many residents who rely on well water, this change could have a direct and lasting impact. Industrial activity often brings increased runoff, chemical use, and a greater demand on underground aquifers. Once a water table is compromised, it is not easily restored and the costs, both financial and personal, can be staggering. We owe it to ourselves and to our children to make sure that every concern is heard, every study is examined, and every safeguard is put in place before any irreversible steps are taken.

This is your land, your water, and your community. DO NOT LET DECISIONS BE MADE WITHOUT YOUR INPUT. Attend tonight’s meeting. Ask questions, speak up, and stand with your neighbors in defense of the health, safety, and future of Lamar County. Progress and preservation must go hand in hand but that balance can only be achieved if we, the people who own property here, show up and make our voices heard.

Happy Birthday to my amazing Cousin Zion. Today is not just about celebrating another year of your life, it is about honoring the incredible spirit and determination you have shown. You could be anywhere, doing anything, but instead you are out here beside me, working with your hands and heart to build something lasting. This 1,000 foot fence we are putting up is not just wood and wire. It is a symbol of your grit, your loyalty, and the kind of character that cannot be taught. You have turned a cattle fence project into something meaningful, and I am beyond proud of you.

This is your first fence project, and you have jumped in with both feet through the dirt, the cold, and the endless swarm of bugs that never seem to quit. You have not complained once. You have just kept moving, kept building, kept believing in what we are doing out here on the farm. Watching you work reminds me of Dad’s strength…that same quiet power, that same relentless spirit that never backs down no matter how tough things get. You have got that in you, Zion, and it shines brighter every day.

So today, I want the world to pause and recognize YOU. You are the brilliant young man who gives his all, who brings laughter to long days, and who reminds me what family truly means. You make me proud beyond words, and I do not want this day to pass without saying how deeply grateful I am to have you by my side. Keep building, keep dreaming, and keep shining, Cuz. The world is better because you are in it. Happy Birthday, Zion!

With love, always. ❤️

SHE TRIED TO EMMETT TILL MY COUSIN, Y’ALL

In March 2023, I watched in shock and fury as a grown woman approached my young Cousin, who was simply learning to chop wood on our farm. He was far from the group, minding his own business, yet she walked onto our farm site and demanded his ID like he was a criminal. Then, she accused him of lies and brought two men to intimidate him, creating a scene that felt designed to provoke violence. But she conveniently ignored her own predatory behavior toward him, as she approached him in a way that was undeniably uncomfortable and threatening.

This was not just one bad encounter. It was an attack on our family, our community, and our peace. But we were not alone when those men returned to escalate things. With a police officer among us, the woman quickly realized she had gone too far. She received a trespassing warning from the local sheriff’s office, but the damage was done. This neighbor tried to harm my Cousin, our bloodline, and bring trauma into our lives. But we fought back strong and unyielding.

Now, my Cousin is an 18 year old young man, learning about life on the farm and growing stronger every day. The peace she tried to take from him is being reclaimed with every step he takes. They may have tried to break us, but they failed. With God’s grace, we stand unshaken, unbroken. We will always rise and protect our own. And no matter how hard they try, they will never break our spirit.

Today’s mood is Psalm 23:5 “You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.” As Dad and I worked the property, shaping our farm into something both meaningful and aesthetically appealing, this verse echoed in my spirit like thunder. This is not just about farming. It is about sovereignty. About claiming space with intention and vision. We are not here to cower to oppression or just survive. We are here to build beauty that demands attention, to plant seeds that defy expectations, and to make the ordinary extraordinary, even with dirt under our nails.

As we carved out something powerful from raw earth, I thought of YOU. And I need you to feel me. WE ARE NOT HERE TO PLAY SMALL. YOU, me, and Dad are not here to be controlled, to be silenced, or to be shaped by the fears of people who are too intimidated by our brilliance to face their own issues. Never let their mediocrity dominate your narrative. Never let their insecurity dictate your moves. We are all capable of greatness that shakes foundations and if they cannot handle our light, let it burn so hot it scorches their comfort zones.

So shine. Shine like fire. Be loud with your talents. Be unbothered by their opposition. BUILD THINGS THAT OUTLIVE THE NOISE. Let our excellence roar in their silence. We were never meant to hide. We were born to create, to lead, to walk boldly into rooms they never wanted us in and turn them into our garden, our oasis, our BEAUTIFUL FARM. Let them watch as we feast in front of them, victorious. Our cups are not just full. They are overflowing, and this overflow is not slowing down for anyone. Keep defying the wicked. Keep pushing. Keep building. Keep rising. Shine ✨ bright in their faces.

Dad and I had some unexpected visitors…Mom and Uncle Mel, along with other family members who made the trip from the Mountain West region to see us here in Georgia. Their arrival was a surprise, and it brought a welcome burst of energy to the farm. It is not every day that folks travel this far just to drop in, so we were both excited and touched by the effort they made.

They spent the afternoon walking the trail, soaking in the peace and quiet that surrounds the property. They loved walking through the woods, pointing out wild herbs and climbing over fallen logs. We strolled slowly, taking in the views and catching up on life. The trail was one of our favorite features here before the fire, and it was nice to see it appreciated through fresh eyes.

After the walk, we gathered back at the front of the farm to share stories and a few laughs. It was good to hear their thoughts on how far we have come with the farm development. Having them here, even for a short visit from such a long distance, reminded us why we started this journey in the first place…to build something meaningful that could bring people together.

I have watched Dad devote himself to this farm, year after year. Through sweltering summers and freezing mornings, he would be out here with nothing more than a w**d eater and quiet determination, trimming every inch by hand. He never once complained. He never once asked for more. He just did what needed to be done, always putting the needs of the farm and everyone else before his own.

A few times, he would mention how incredible it would be to have a zero turn mower. Not in a longing way more like a passing thought, a faraway dream. But Dad would always shrug it off. “Maybe one day,” he would say, and then he would move on, back to work, back to saving, never indulging. That is just who he is.

So, I finally gave him that “one day.”

When the delivery truck pulled into our driveway with his zero turn mower looking sleek, powerful, and shining in the sun, I watched Dad walk toward it slowly, almost in disbelief. His eyes lit up in a way I had not seen since I was a kid. He ran his hands along the handlebars, grinning wide, his voice a little shaky as he said, “Is this… for me?”

Yes, Dad. It is for you. For every early morning you spent pushing through pain just to make things better for us. For every time you said “I’m fine” when you clearly were not, just so I did not worry. For every weekend you gave up to help me build my dream.

Watching him climb on and take that first ride felt like watching a chapter finally come full circle. He was not just mowing. He was soaring. It was joy. Pure, earned, overdue joy.

And for me, as his Daughter, it was not just a gift. It was a thank you expressed deeper than words can say. Thank you for teaching me resilience. For loving me through every failure and celebrating every win.

This mower, as simple as it may seem to the world, is his moment. His trophy. His well deserved victory lap.

And I have never been prouder to give anything in my life. ❤️❤️❤️

Juneteenth stands as a powerful symbol of freedom, resilience, and the ongoing fight for justice. On June 19, 1865, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation, the last enslaved Black Americans in Galveston, Texas were finally told they were free. This day marks not just the end of slavery, but the beginning of a long, determined struggle for dignity, land, and opportunity. For Black farmers, descendants of those who once toiled the land without pay, Juneteenth is more than a commemoration. It is a call to honor that legacy with continued perseverance and pride.

Despite centuries of systemic discrimination from broken promises of “forty acres and a mule” to land theft, lack of access to credit, and exclusion from agricultural policy, Black farmers have endured. We have cultivated soil, communities, and hope against all odds. Today, our work nourishes not just bodies, but a legacy of resistance. Our presence is an act of defiance and a testament to self determination. These stewards of the earth are reclaiming a space historically denied and redefining what it means to thrive in rural America.

But the fight is far from over. As we celebrate Juneteenth, let us not only reflect, but show solidarity and support. We must support Black farmers by advocating for equitable agricultural policies, investing in Black owned farms, and preserving ancestral land. Our survival is not just a matter of justice. It is a matter of national soul. Let us sow solidarity into the soil and reap a future where Black farmers flourish, not in spite of history, but in the bold reimagining of it.

Dad and I spent the day with our younger cousins at the farm, and it turned out to be really special. Our morning started around 7:30 AM when someone who follows us said hello at Home Depot, which made the girls super excited and convinced we’re “famous.” On the way to the farm, we talked about the difference between being famous and being part of a community and how it is more about people feeling connected to what you do than being a celebrity. After grabbing supplies and having fun going from store to store, we finally got to the farm. While we worked, we had a good talk about standing out in life, why owning land matters, and why it is smart to take school seriously while you are young. I tried to keep things fun but also hoped they would learn something important. In the end, it was a busy, meaningful day full of little moments we will all remember. Excuse the
