Thank you, Wilkin Soil and Water Conservation District, for the certification. We will proudly display our new signs.

In October 2025, Maier Farms, LLC achieved the status of Water Quality Certified Farm! Congratulations to Andy & Stephanie Maier and their family! This accomplishment reflects their excellent stewardship of our water and soil resources, which includes: practicing conservation tillage; cover crops; careful nutrient & pest management; grassed filter strips along streams; field windbreaks to reduce wind erosion of soil; and Conservation Reserve Program acres.

Rain and heat shut down harvest today. We thought that meant Dad would be home for supper, but the corn dryer had other plans. So, we packed up the tater tot* hotdish, and took supper to Dad in the dryer shed. It was hot, crowded, and full of flies—not health department approved—but we were together on a fall evening and it was perfect! *Hash browns replaced tater tots, because the bags look the same—oops!

Dad has been spending most mornings, days, afternoons, and evenings in the combine working on getting the soybeans and sunflowers in the bins. Tonight we stopped at Dee's Drive-In and enjoyed a family meal in the cab. l

If you have something to eat today, tell a farmer thank you. They are carrying the weight of the world on their shoulders. (And they wouldn’t give it up for anything!) 🌽 🌾 🫛 🌻 🥔 🚜

I know it’s spring planting season—even though it’s still quite wet in our fields—because the laundry treasures just keep coming. Just once could The Farmer leave me a 💯?!

Make hay when the sun shines—or harvest corn through the rain. Farmers don’t have the luxury of stopping for life’s milestones—in fact, we are missing a dear coworker’s wedding today and our hired man is working in the shop on his birthday, because it’s October in MN and we can’t make plans due to harvest. So, we make the best of it! We head to our local grocery store for their finest cupcakes, stop by the local hardware store for candles, and head to the shop to celebrate our hired man. Happy Birthday to everyone who loves farming and has a fall birthday!
