🚨🐓 BREAKING NEWS FROM TREATS BY TESS! 🤣

Believe it or not, I didn’t bake a single damn thing today! Not one cookie, cake, or cinnamon roll! Somebody better check my temperature because clearly something ain’t right! 😂

Instead, I traded my apron for some fresh air and a little manual labor! Got some yard work done, moved the chicks to their outside coop now that they’re fully feathered, and made a little more progress on the farmstand! 🐓🌻🏡

The chickens are probably wondering what the hell they’ve done to deserve all this attention, and my oven is probably enjoying its first day off in weeks! 🤣

Don’t get too excited, though. This sudden burst of responsible adult behavior probably won’t last long! 😈

Even Grandma had to put down the rolling pin once in a while! ❤️

Look who came crawling back around. MONDAY! 🙄🤣

You know what I was thinking while having my coffee this morning?

I wonder if our grandparents dreaded Mondays as much as we do, or if they just rolled out of bed, threw on an apron, fired up the percolator, and got on with it?

No snooze buttons, no fancy coffee orders, no scrolling through Facebook while trying to convince themselves to be productive. Just a strong cup of coffee, a whole lot of chores, and probably a few colorful words muttered under their breath. 😂

And something tells me Grandma wasn’t floating around that kitchen singing like a Disney princess every Monday morning either! 🤣

But somehow, between the laundry, the cooking, the cleaning, and keeping everybody in line, there was usually something homemade waiting on the kitchen counter. ❤️

Maybe that’s one thing we could stand to borrow from the good old days. A little less rushing, a little more sitting around the table, and something delicious to go with that second cup of coffee. For me it’s a slice of Banana Bliss Bread with a smidge more butter than I need. 😉 Delish!

Now I’m curious! Did your grandparents have any funny morning habits or sayings that have stuck with you all these years?

Come on, spill the beans! I have a feeling some of those grandmothers were a whole lot sassier than their Sunday church dresses let on! 🤣❤️

🏈☕ GOOD MORNING, YOU BEAUTIFUL LITTLE HEATHENS! 😂❤️

It’s Sunday, the coffee’s brewing, football is on, and somewhere there’s already a grown man, or woman, yelling at the television like they’re personally on the coaching staff. 🤣

Now, don’t get me wrong. I’m 100% a football girl! ❤️💛 HOW ’BOUT THOSE CHIEEEEEFS?! 🏈🔥

Our boys have a bye week, but you can bet your sweet a$$ I’m still watching football! Just because my Chiefs aren’t playing doesn’t mean I’m taking Sunday off. I’ve got other teams to cheer against! 😈😂

And before any of you Patriots fans get your panties in a bunch, DON’T BE A HATER! 🤣Just because I was raised in New England doesn’t mean I signed some lifelong contract to worship the Patriots! I’ve been a diehard Chiefs fan for WELL OVER 30 YEARS! ❤️💛🏈 I was cheering for Kansas City long before it became fashionable, so don’t come at me with that bandwagon nonsense! 😘 I love my New England roots, but my football heart belongs to Kansas City!

Now, if we’ve got that settled, we can all get back to the important stuff… football, food, and talking a little smack! 😈😂

Because a good game deserves good snacks, and in my world, dessert is just as important as a touchdown. 🍪🏈

Besides, if the game gets ugly, at least something sweet can make the day better. And unlike some quarterbacks, my baked goods know how to deliver under pressure! 🤣

Some folks wake up on Saturday morning ready to clean the house, run errands, and get their lives together.

And then there’s the rest of us, wondering how early is too early to start eating dessert. 😂

Personally, I think adulthood comes with enough responsibilities without having to explain why there’s frosting on your coffee cup at 9 AM. 😈

🍎😈 Well, well, well… Good evening my Dirty Darlings. 😉 It looks like our cinnamon rolls have been fooling around with an apple pie! 🤣

Somebody’s been getting a little frisky in the kitchen, and the results are downright delicious! 😂

We’ve got our classic, soft, fluffy cinnamon rolls, loaded with buttery cinnamon sugar goodness. ❤️

But then somebody had to get a little adventurous…

Soft, fluffy cinnamon rolls stuffed with buttery cinnamon sugar and tender little apples, then dressed up with sweet icing and a luscious caramel drizzle, and walnuts to top it all off!
When apple pie and cinnamon rolls get together, things are bound to get a little sticky! 😈🤣

And she’s got a sweet little apple bottom! 🤣

Meet Apple Bottom Trouble, the newest troublemaker to come out of my kitchen!

Layers of homemade apple spice cake, loaded with real apples, tucked between generous swirls of maple brown sugar buttercream, with a little golden drizzle for good measure.

And because I believe a little extra temptation never hurt anybody, she comes with her own stash of maple toasted walnut crunch to sprinkle on top.

Sweet, a little nutty, and definitely not as innocent as she looks. 😏

Grandma might’ve made something like this, but I have a feeling she’d have kept the recipe hidden from the church ladies. 🤣🍎

And would you just look at that gorgeous cake platter! Some things are too special to tuck away in a cupboard. And I have a feeling Grammy Barb would get quite a kick out of the name of this one! 🤣❤️

Round 2 of showing off my savory side! 😂❤️

Tonight’s dinner is homemade shepherd’s pie with creamy mashed potatoes, baked until golden brown, topped with gravy and served with biscuits! 🤤❤️

I keep telling myself I need to learn how to cook smaller portions, but somehow that never seems to happen. 😂

As much as I love baking, there’s just something about a good old fashioned home cooked meal that hits the spot!

And judging by tonight’s dinner, leftovers are definitely on tomorrow’s menu! 😂❤️ Or maybe I’ll share some!

There’s something special about an old handwritten recipe. I have 3 recipe boxes full of them. ❤️

The faded ink, the flour smudges, the little notes scribbled in the margins, and the handwriting of someone you love. Some of those recipes have seen more holidays, family gatherings, and kitchen conversations than we could ever count.

They’re so much more than instructions on a piece of paper. They’re memories. They’re traditions. They’re little pieces of people and moments we wish we could have back, even if just for one more afternoon in the kitchen. ❤️

And sometimes, all it takes is pulling out that old recipe to feel like they’re right there beside you again.

Of course, some of those recipes say things like “a handful of this,” “a pinch of that,” or my personal favorite, “bake until done.” 😂 Thanks for the detailed instructions, Grandma!

But I wouldn’t trade those handwritten treasures for the fanciest cookbook in the world.

Because at Treats by Tess, I believe some of the best things we pass down aren’t things at all. They’re the recipes, the stories, the laughter, and the love that went into making them.

Just like grandma used to make… only with a little more sass. 💕
