This year we received a grant from to give our greenhouse an upgrade in two ways: one, new improvements to the structure itself (more on that later) and two, in the way that we seed some crops. We invested in a new Paperpot system. Paperpots are an accordion style chain of paper cells that you seed into, then after 2-4 weeks, you plant in the ground. This specialized transplanter then allows us to drag the chain out, leaving a long line of plants. We started 600 FEET of snap peas in these trays, then transplanted them in the field two weeks ago. They're already 6 inches tall. The beauty of this planting method is that you get better germination and once planted, get more established plants in the ground *before* the weeds have started growing. So far we've planted scallions and peas and have lettuce, beets and herbs on the docket to go in next. Can't wait to see how it goes!
Also shout out to:
*Small Works Farm, in WI for the paperpot chains and trays
* for the seeder that is an original transplanter.
*And also thanks to for all the online tutorials!
