Hello Fellow Beekeepers! Its been a cold one this winter but have no fear, the cold is typically the least likely reason for honeybees not to make it through the winter! We are starting to get our first few warm days of the year to help you get a better idea of how your honeybees are doing so far.

For anyone needing to replace bees, expand their apiary, or anyone finally ready to start your own hives this year we are taking orders for this spring!

3lb Package Bees with Italian, Buckfast or VSH queens are available for Pickup April 5th and April 26th this year and 5 Frame Nucs will be available mid May!

If you have any questions or would like to place an order you can visit our website or give us a call! Prices are the same as last year, Packages at $160 and Nucs at $240

(We understand April 5th is Easter, April 5th was not the original pick up date but unfortunately the weather deals the cards in beekeeping. This year we changed pick up dates from Mondays to Sundays in hopes it would be more convenient for everyone but Mother Nature had other plans. If you have scheduling conflicts but dont want to wait until our 2nd pick up date please give us a call and we will work something out!)

Very grateful that 95% of the swarms this year have landed in these trees. Now hopefully the honeybees decide to stay in their new hive.

Sometimes when you let a hive requeen on its own a newly hatched queen will leave the hive instead of risk fighting to the death in the gladiator arena with the other queens that hatch, often occurring when multiple queens hatch within minutes of each other.

Honeybee fanning its wings. In this case she is fanning to signal to the rest of the bees (from the swarm i just climbed a small tree to capture) that this is the location of their new home.

The videos and pictures cell phones are capable of now these days are amazing.

Today we received a nice surprise when it was brought to our attention by one of my father's oldest beekeeping friends that the state shared a video featuring my father, on mass.gov, about black bears.

Its only for a few seconds but if you go 2 minutes and 40 seconds into the video you can see rare footage of my father at one of our bee yards from about 10 years ago.

We hope those of you who knew my father appreciate this as much as we did.

If you're wondering how your honeybees have been doing so far this winter, we have some nice warm weather coming our way that should enable you to safely check the strength of your hives. We do not recommend doing a full inspection of your hives or even opening the top if you arent sure it is warm enough at your location.

This is a picture from today February 8th 2024. As you can see the bees have decided it is warm enough for them to stretch their wings and see what's happening outside of their hive (and it's only 46° in our area). Saturday we are supposed to have a high of 54° so if your honeybees arent flying on Saturday they are most likely no longer alive.

Take advantage of unseasonably warm weather so you can better plan for the spring ahead! Give us a call if you have any questions on what you should do during these warm winter days.

Happy New Year!! Hope everyone enjoyed the holiday season.

Just wanted to let everyone know we are taking 3lb Package and 5 Frame Nuc orders for Spring 2024!

3lb Package Pickup days are
Monday March 25th and Monday April 15th

5 Frame Nucs will be available starting in the middle of May depending on weather. When we start making them you will be notified via phone or email in the order that the orders were received.

Orders can be placed online at our website, over the phone, or you can print out an order form and mail it in with a check.

If you would like to pickup additional equipment when you pickup your honeybees please let us know ahead of time so we can have everything ready for you.

May 1st Package Pickup is on schedule!

Packages will be available for pickup from 12PM to 4PM on Sunday April 30th as well as the regularly scheduled pickup time of 9AM to 5PM Monday May 1st!

We have been making good time on our drives back from Georgia with the honeybees so we are offering a small window on Sunday from 12PM to 4PM to pickup your bees!

We hope this helps with everyone's busy schedules and we look forward to seeing you all!

There will be a limited number of extra packages available for anyone who would like to get more than they ordered!

Drive safe, DON'T TAKE EVERETT ROAD unless you have a truck, and as always any other beekeeping supplies you may need will be available as well!
