Hogshooter Homestead

Hogshooter Homestead We are creating a community to share the struggles and accomplishments with being a Homesteader. We are the Buchanan's. Stay turned. :)

Chris is a Bartlesville Firefighter and Manager for Woolaroc. Tzeitel is a Senior Manager of a Network Planning team for Lumen Technologies. Together we are the parents of 4 boys with ages being from 27 to 5. The last 4 years, Chris and I have shared a passion to garden that started out very simple with one elevated straw bale bed, a couple of lines in the dirt, and a pile of compost. Over the las

t few years we have refined out gardening and learned from our mistakes. We have expanded that small summer garden 4 years ago to a garden that is supported all year round. Last year, as we all settled into our new lives of social distancing, we added in chickens, steers, and pigs. As our garden flourish I took a stab at canning pickles 3 years ago and quite honestly they were horrible. They were to salty and not worth eating and I followed the recipe on the label. The following year I crafted my own jalapeno pickle recipe and they were a huge success. Last year, I took on canning everything from salsa, bruschetta, jellies, and more. I have an obsession with creating something that is super yummy with less salt, less sugar, and nutritious. Thanks for joining us in our adventures, as we move forward in reducing our carbon footprint, recycling, compositing, and living the life we have embraced and want to share.

I will never be my grandmother, but I'll strive to be a women who loves her family and gives back without seeking praise for good deeds.

I have tried for probably nearly 5 years to grow Rhubarb, not that I like it, but because it is attached to my summer memories of her as a child. My mother has always shared stories of her Strawberry Rhubarb Pie a treasured dessert she loved when pregnant with me. I now have 2 flourishing plants this year and I know she has to be smiling at this accomplishment. Now let's see how long it takes to be able to make that pie again to share with my Momma.
